CNC Grinder
Location: Spring Lake, MI
Shift: 1st shift
Pay: $18-$24/hour
Job Summary:
This position reports directly to the Grinding Supervisor. Responsible for setting up and operating of grinding machines, such as external, internal, and surface grinders, to grind metal work pieces as machined parts. This job description is subject to change, and Precision Grind Set-Up Grinders will be advised when changes are made.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):
- Studies blueprint or layout on work piece to visualize grinding to be done, and plans sequence of operations.
- Selects grinding wheel and secures it on spindle.
- Dresses wheel with dressing device. Dresses grinding wheels to complex profiles as needed.
- Lifts work piece and positions and secures work piece to holding device.
- Selects feed rates, grinding speeds, depth of cuts and grind wheel of size, shape and grade for each operation.
- Positions and tightens stops to limit travel of work pieces or grinding wheel.
- Moves controls to position wheel and work piece in relation to each other, and to set feed, speed and depth of cut.
- Starts machine, turns hand wheel to feed grinding wheel to work piece or vice versa, and engages power feeding device.
- Turns valve handle and directs flow of coolant against wheel and work piece.
- Observes operation and adjusts position and action of wheel and work piece.
- Verifies dimensions of groundwork pieces for conformance to specifications and required tolerances.
- Performs and records first piece and quality inspections as required for each work piece.
- Being sure the equipment in working order by inspecting and performing basic maintenance, including lubrication and cleaning, and scheduling repairs when needed.
- Maintain a clean work area.
- Trains new and existing employees as necessary.
- Other tasks as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:
- 1 Year certificate from college or technical school; or 3-6 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 1-2 years’ experience in a manufacturing and machining setting.
Skills:
- Able to follow written and oral instructions.
- Able to read, analyze and interpret documents such as blueprints, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such at proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Good communication skills (verbal and written)

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:
- Manufacturing setting
- Works near moving mechanical parts on a regular basis.
- Moderate noise levels.
- Fast paced.
- Standing for long periods of time.
- Bending/stooping.
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must possess good close and peripheral vision as well as depth perception.
- Continuous use of hands and fingers to feed work pieces into CNC machines.
