Injection Molding Process Technician
Location: Zeeland, MI
Shift: 2nd shift, 3pm-1am Monday-Thursday
Pay: $27-$28/hour
Essential Job Functions:
• Technical lead for the shift by overseeing and optimizing processes for injection molding, robotic programing, seal application cells, blending, grinding, and other automated value add activities.
• Support team members with quality or process related issues of equipment that they operate. Acts as a positive example of team work.
• Proficient with molding machine processing and robot programming for mold changes and robot end-of-arm tooling changes. Examples include, mold clamp and ejector settings, machine material purge process, and robot operation for tool changes.
• Ensure that all safety procedures and checklists are followed and personal protective equipment used when required.
• Teaches and mentors mold techs for backup and people development. Proficient and able to teach all mold tech job description functions.
• Ensure that parts meet quality standards during startup and the whole production run by following process controls first piece procedures, checklists, and best practices. Checks that parts meets dimensional and go no/go standards.
• Proficient in tool and die assembly and disassembly. Such as pin replacements, A and B plate assembly, insert changes, and threaded pipe work.
• Coordinate the mold change process safely by overseeing the external set up steps, internal setup steps, and setting up the molding process. Assist mold techs with mold changes, pin changes, insert changes, as needed using the proper lockout procedure.
• Audit and optimize injection molding processes (cycle time) while maintaining part quality and maintaining machine / robot reliability. Maintain and optimize robot programs and machine process programs.
• Documents process sheets, OEE information, and process standards. Log data or notify team leader when conditions are outside of limits.
• Problem solve processes and equipment issues as they occur throughout production runs.
• Perform machine repairs when needed.
• Assists with engineering sampling of new molds and equipment, data collection, and troubleshooting.
• Manage auxiliary equipment and material handling equipment and make necessary changes in preparation for changeovers such as dryer operation and blender changeovers. Oversee material dryers, blenders, chillers, thermolators, and material conveying equipment.
• Lead for design, build, and standardization of standard end-of-arm-tooling and robotic de-gating equipment.
• Perform maintenance and 5S activities on injection molding equipment on a daily basis.
• Looks for ways to eliminate waste, improve product quality, improve safety, and improve the work environment for team members. Communicate opportunities or issues to engineering or management whenever found. Examples include safety near hits; equipment repairs needed, or cost savings ideas.
• Perform other duties as assigned
Candidate Requirements:
• Technical: Minimal 5 yrs experience in injection molding technology or related field. Demonstrated Injection molding process control experience and robot programming. Quick mold change experience / training.
• Experience in hydraulics, electrical, and mechanical maintenance repair methods and problems solving.
• Computer skills; such as Word, Excel, and databases. Fanuc, Motoman, Sepro Robots, and Cincinnati molding machine experience a plus.
Education:
• 2 year associate degree in plastics engineering technology or related field.
• 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
