Role Overview
In this pivotal position, you'll be at the forefront of shaping tax strategy, ensuring compliance, and optimizing tax framework to align with strategic goals. You'll collaborate with diverse teams across finance, legal, and operations to enhance tax efficiency and minimize liabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Compliance Leadership: Spearhead the preparation and submission of tax filings for operations in the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico, ensuring adherence to all applicable tax regulations, including income, sales, and property taxes.
- Strategic Tax Planning: Develop and execute innovative tax strategies to reduce effective tax rate and support financial targets. Provide insights on the tax impacts of business decisions, such as mergers and acquisitions.
- Risk Management: Identify potential tax risks proactively, ensuring compliance with evolving tax laws. Lead audits and engage with tax authorities to safeguard company interests.
- Team Development: Cultivate a high-performing tax team by mentoring and providing opportunities for professional growth, fostering an environment of collaboration and excellence.
- Process Enhancement: Continuously refine tax processes, leveraging technology to improve efficiency and accuracy. Partner with IT and other departments to implement solutions that streamline tax operations.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; a CPA, JD/LLM in Taxation, or equivalent certification is essential.
- A minimum of 10 years of progressive tax experience, including leadership roles with a focus on U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico.
- Comprehensive understanding of U.S. federal and state tax laws, along with international tax regulations applicable to Canada and Puerto Rico.
- Proven expertise in tax planning, compliance, and risk management, particularly in indirect taxes like sales and VAT.
- Proficiency in ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle, alongside advanced Excel capabilities.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with a track record of leading and nurturing successful teams.
- Experience in the automotive or retail sectors is a plus.
