Senior Product Development Manager

Location: Los Angeles, CA, on-site Hybrid 

Client Partnership: We have partnered with a compelling consumer product company that has proven to successfully grow brands around the world. They are seeking a motivated Senior Product Development Manager to join their team in the beauty products division.

Role Overview: The Senior Product Development Manager will report to the VP of Product Development and will be responsible for coordinating the various stages involved in the planning, development and launch of new product categories.

As the Senior Product Development Manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our brand. You will oversee all aspects of the product development process for new product categories, from concept generation to market launch. Your expertise will be instrumental in ensuring that our products meet the highest standards of quality, efficacy, and consumer satisfaction.

Core Responsibilities:

Product Strategy:

• Develop comprehensive product roadmaps and timelines.
• Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify market gaps and opportunities.
• Collaborate with marketing and sales teams to ensure products align with consumer needs and market trends.

Presenting Concepts to Leadership Team:

• Develop compelling presentations to effectively communicate product concepts, development plans, and progress updates to the leadership team.
• Use data-driven insights and compelling storytelling to build support and secure necessary resources.
• Address questions and concerns from leadership in a clear and persuasive manner.

Innovation:

• Explore emerging technologies and ingredients to develop innovative and differentiated products.
• Foster a culture of innovation within the product development team.
• Collaborate with external partners and research institutions to identify new opportunities.

Formulation Development:

• Oversee the development of product formulations that meet performance, safety, and regulatory requirements.
• Conduct stability testing and shelf-life studies to ensure product quality and longevity.
• Collaborate with regulatory affairs to ensure compliance with local and international regulations.

Packaging Development:

• Develop packaging concepts that are visually appealing, functional, and align with the brand's aesthetic.
• Collaborate with packaging designers and suppliers to ensure timely delivery and quality.
• Conduct packaging testing to evaluate functionality and durability.

Testing and Quality Assurance:

• Develop and implement rigorous testing protocols to assess product performance, safety, and efficacy.
• Oversee quality control processes to ensure products meet company standards.
• Collaborate with quality assurance teams to investigate and resolve product quality issues.

Project Management:

• Manage project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
• Track project progress and identify potential risks and mitigation strategies.
• Ensure timely delivery of product development milestones.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

• Effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, sales, research and development, regulatory affairs, and manufacturing.
• Build strong relationships and foster open communication to drive project success.
• Facilitate effective teamwork and problem-solving.

Vendor Management:

• Negotiate contracts and manage relationships with suppliers, manufacturers, and regulatory agencies.
• Evaluate supplier performance and identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
• Ensure compliance with supplier quality standards and ethical sourcing practices.

Team Leadership:

• Provide leadership and mentorship to the product development team.
• Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
• Develop and implement performance management processes.

Essentials:

• 6 years of experience in product development within the beauty industry, with a focus on hair care and skin care
• Proven track record of successfully launching new products
• Strong understanding of product formulation, testing, and manufacturing processes
• Excellent project management and organizational skills
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Passion for innovation and a commitment to delivering exceptional products

Compensation:

The projected annual salary is estimated at $90,000 - $95,000 per year, representing the low and high ends of the range. The actual starting rate of pay may vary based on factors that include, but are not limited to, the position offered, work experience, education, training, and commensurate experience.
