Responsibilities
- Assists attorneys with researching, preparing, and cite-checking pleadings, briefs, motions, and other legal filings (using LEXIS, Westlaw, and other research platforms as appropriate).
- Collects, organizes and maintains documents and files related to legal matters, including documents received from the client, opposing parties or other sources.
- Assists attorneys with discovery phase, including preparation of discovery requests, issuing subpoenas, and preparing for and attending depositions.
- Manages calendars, docket and tickler systems, ECF filing of pleadings, and assists in meeting deadlines.
- Drafts routine correspondence and memoranda for attorneys and more senior level paralegals as requested.
- Coordinates mailings, copying projects and filings, including electronic databases, where appropriate.
- Four year degree required.
- 5 or more years of experience supporting litigation work in a law firm.
- Paralegal Certification from an ABA accredited program preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, firm management and external parties.
- Ability to travel as necessary to support trial/transaction needs and/or collection of documents or on-site production of documents.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, Adobe Acrobat, ECF/Pacer,and other legal support software as appropriate.
