• 12 months or more of recent dialysis experience required
• 13-week contract
• Day shift
• 36-40 hours per week - OT available
• Indiana or compact license required
• BLS certification

Purpose and Scope

This position is responsible for delivering clinically competent care through assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation for an assigned group of patients. Responsibilities include delegating appropriate tasks to patient care staff and participating in decision-making, teaching, leadership, and quality improvement activities to enhance patient care outcomes and facility operations.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform all functions under the direction of the Supervisor and with guidance from the Clinical Educator or Preceptor
• Conduct ongoing, systematic collection and analysis of patient data during hemodialysis treatment
• Assess and document patient/family learning needs and provide education
• Direct and provide safe and effective delivery of hemodialysis therapy
• Administer medications as prescribed and document appropriately
• Initiate or assist with emergency response measures
• Serve as a resource for the healthcare team and participate in staff training
• Ensure correct laboratory collection and processing procedures
• Identify expected outcomes and update the nursing assessment and plan of care
• Ensure patient awareness of transplant and treatment modality options
• Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

The role involves direct patient care, including heavy lifting and assisting with ambulation. It requires frequent standing, bending, and moving equipment. The work environment is characteristic of a healthcare facility with air temperature control and moderate noise levels. Exposure to infectious diseases/materials may occur. Travel to training sites or other facilities may be required. Candidates must take the Ishihara's Color Blindness test as a condition of employment. Reasonable accommodations will be considered for those who do not pass the test.

Supervision

Oversight of Patient Care Technicians/LPNs/LVNs/RNs as a Team Leader or designated Nurse in Charge is required after successful completion of all client education and training requirements for new employees.

Education and Licensure

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
• Current appropriate state licensure
• Current or successful completion of CPR BLS Certification
• Must meet the practice requirements in the state of employment

Experience and Required Skills

• 1 year of Nephrology Nursing experience in the last two years as an RN
• Chronic hemodialysis experience required
