- Must be willing to work in an office/administrative area of a jail.
- Training onsite with potential to move to hybrid position with reporting to office 1 day/wk.
- Reviews requests for release of health information and determines if the request meets legal requirements for release.
- Compiles the minimum necessary document set to fulfill the records request and releases records per secure electronic protocols.
- Sort and file materials according to an alphabetic, numeric or color-coded system.
- Create lists or directories.
- Verify information on forms.
- Produce documents such as letters, memos, proposals and statistical material following company standards.
- Transcribe shorthand notes.
- Transcribe from voice recordings.
- Proofread and correct documents.
- Place, receive and route phone calls.
- Schedule appointments.
- Handle incoming and outgoing mail.
- Compile information and record keeping.
- File, maintain, and review medical records for completeness.
- Processes Correctional Health System (CHS) requests for health information from outside entities.
- Scans documents and enters into patient charts with a high level of accuracy and efficiency.
- Conducts and participates in quality checks and management of electronic patient records.
- Completes security reports and researches inconsistencies.
- Participates in process improvement initiatives with clinical staff and management.
- Monitors incoming information requests, processes, and prioritizes accordingly.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Two (2) years of experience performing office, administrative and clerical duties.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and medical environment required.
- HIPAA certification for Health Records Management, preferred.
- Experience working with Electronic Health Record software, preferred.
- Experience with the release of health information.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office products and Adobe Pro.
- Ability to correspond professionally in person and online.
- Ability to accurately count materials/items.
- Knowledge of standard filing systems.
- Ability to do detailed work.
- Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations.
- Ability to follow instructions.
- Ability to communicate clearly and accurately.
- Ability to use dictation/transcription equipment, fax, PC and copier.
- Knowledge of alpha, numeric and terminal digit file systems.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of multiple software.
- Experience in medical records processing and maintenance.
