Work schedule will be 4 / 40, 10-hour day within the M-TH
Work shifts range from 6 : 30am to 6 : 00pm. Overtime may be required after hours.

Position Description
- The Digital Communications Systems Technician (DCS Tech) works under the direction of a Digital Communications Systems Supervisor or user agency personnel and may receive technical guidance from a journey-level Senior Digital Communications Systems Technician (SDCS Tech) or higher network Systems Administrator, or Telecommunications Systems Engineer, or similar.
- This classification installs, configures, tests, maintains, and repairs analog, digital telephone or data communications systems and equipment.
- They will frequently lift tools, supplies, and equipment weighing 10 to 25 pounds, and occasionally over 25 pounds, regularly use 6-foot and taller ladders, and perform tasks that require bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching.
- The DCS Tech will install, configure, test, maintain, and repair analog, digital and Internet based communications systems, infrastructure, and equipment, including servers supporting applications such as voicemail, call recording, automated telephone attendants, interactive voice response, digital network telecommunications circuits, and digital communications equipment such as modems, channel banks, multiplexers, and repeaters.
- The DCS Tech will install, program, test, maintain, and repair private branch exchange (PBX) and key telephone switching systems, Cloud Services (MS TEAMS, Web-EX, Zoom) and related equipment.
- The DCS Tech will install, rehabilitate, and remove cabling infrastructure such as copper and fiber-optic cables, wire management systems, patch panels and jacks according to industry standards.
- They will test, troubleshoot, and repair telephone and network cabling.
- The DSC Tech will provide technical support for telephone equipment moves, equipment added, or equipment changes.
- The DCS Tech will confer and consult with vendors and other County department representatives regarding operational problems, repair, maintenance, and installation of digital communications systems and equipment.
- They will work closely with vendors regarding operational problems, repair, modification, and installation of software, hardware, and circuits.
- The DCS Tech will configure, add, move, change, and troubleshoot voice over IP equipment in an enterprise call control and session management platform.
- The DCS Tech will determine the tip-ring and low voltage wiring color code for voice functionality.
- They will assist in the technical evaluation of equipment in coordination with engineering and operating personnel.

Experience Required This classification requires at least three (3) years of experience in the installation, configuration, testing, maintenance, and repair of digital telephone private branch exchange (PBX) and key switching systems. One (1) year must have been at the journey-level.
Experience Preferred Experience with NEC PBX systems, Nortel Norstar Key phone system (MICS, Call-pilot, Trunk / station modules, RAD) and VOIP products (Cisco, Microsoft Teams Voice)
Education Required This classification requires a high school diploma or GED certificate. Valid class C driver's license with no restrictions. Physical dexterity, color perception, and visual acuity are required to perform essential job-related functions effectively and safely.
Additional Information
Required to drive personal vehicle to Los Angeles County offices about 75% of the time. Los Angeles County does not reimburse temporary contractors for mileage.
