Job Description: Soil Sampling Technician
We are seeking a motivated individual to join our team in a role dedicated to fieldwork aimed at combating climate change. This position involves collecting and organizing soil samples from agricultural fields, contributing to critical efforts in carbon sequestration. The work is physically demanding and requires independence, as you will use handheld drills and augers to collect soil samples in various weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collect and organize soil samples using specified equipment and methods.
- Perform fieldwork independently across multiple locations.
- Adapt to unpredictable farming and weather conditions to maintain sampling schedules.
- Prepare for sampling seasons through remote administrative tasks during off-peak periods.
Travel Requirements:
- The role involves extensive travel during two primary sampling seasons: March to June and mid-September to mid-November.
- Fieldwork requires sampling at least five days a week, weather permitting.
- Travel may account for up to 70% of the time, depending on your proximity to sampling sites.
- Reimbursement for mileage, hotel accommodations, and a daily food stipend is provided.
Qualifications:
- Passion for working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Self-motivation and focus for performing independent, repetitive, and physical tasks.
- Flexibility to adapt to changes in schedules due to weather or farming needs.
- Fieldwork experience in areas such as agriculture, agronomy, soil science, or natural resources is preferred.
- Active outdoor hobbies or relevant experience is a plus.
- Willingness to travel using a personal vehicle.
Requirements:
- Reliable vehicle and a clean driving record (mileage reimbursed).
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs over uneven terrain.
- Comfortable working in extreme weather conditions.
- Experience in agriculture, outdoor fieldwork, or following standard operating procedures.
- Willingness to learn and operate ATV/UTVs (experience preferred).
- Towing trailer experience is a bonus.
- Authorized to work in the U.S.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Starting pay: $19/hour.
- Accrued sick leave and paid time off.
- Mileage and travel reimbursement.
Job Details:
- Temporary, part-time position (March-November).
- Weekly hours: 15–60 hours, depending on the season.
