Field Technician I – Soil Sampling

TalentCraft is seeking a Field Technician to support an innovative climate research initiative focused on carbon sequestration in agricultural soils. This role is well-suited for individuals with field experience in agriculture, soil science, natural resources, or related disciplines who are comfortable working outdoors and independently.
Position Overview
The Field Technician will play a critical role in collecting and organizing soil samples to support scientific research on carbon sequestration. Using handheld drills and augers, the technician will independently extract and document soil samples from designated field sites. The role requires significant physical activity, travel, and adaptability to variable weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct soil sampling in agricultural fields following established protocols
- Utilize handheld drills and augers to collect soil samples with precision
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of sampling activities
- Travel extensively within the assigned region, with up to 70% fieldwork during peak sampling seasons (April–July & Mid-September–Mid-November)
- Work independently in various weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, etc.)
- Support preparatory and administrative tasks remotely between sampling seasons
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience in agriculture, agronomy, soil science, or field-based research preferred
- Ability to perform independent, physically demanding tasks in outdoor environments
- Strong attention to detail and adherence to scientific protocols
- Reliable personal vehicle and a clean driving record (mileage reimbursed)
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs over uneven terrain for extended periods
- Familiarity with ATV/UTV operation (preferred but not required)
- Experience towing trailers is a plus
Compensation & Benefits
- $19/hour starting pay
- Mileage & travel reimbursement
- Accrued sick leave & paid time off
Work Schedule
- Temporary position (April–November)
- Monday to Friday, with potential for overtime and weekend work as needed
- Expected 15–60 hours per week, depending on project needs and weather conditions
