Job Summary
The Telemetry/Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) provides high-quality, compassionate patient care in a fast-paced hospital setting. The RN ensures patient safety, promotes recovery, and supports both patients and their families.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care & Clinical Duties:
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care in the Telemetry/Med-Surg unit.
- Monitor and interpret telemetry (cardiac) readings, recognizing abnormal rhythms and responding appropriately.
- Administer medications, IV therapies, and treatments per physician orders.
- Provide post-surgical and acute care management, including wound care, pain management, and infection prevention.
- Document patient assessments, interventions, and progress in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
- Assist with diagnostic tests, procedures, and interventions as needed.
- Coordinate with physicians, nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare team members to ensure optimal patient care.
- Educate patients and families about medical conditions, treatment plans, and post-discharge care.
- Serve as a patient advocate by addressing concerns and ensuring comfort and dignity.
- Follow hospital policies, protocols, and infection control procedures.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations, patient confidentiality, and ethical nursing practices.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and professional development activities.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (ASN or BSN) required.
- Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certifications required.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification preferred.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience in a recent hospital setting required
- Previous experience in Telemetry, Medical-Surgical, or Progressive Care Unit (PCU) strongly desired.
- Strong assessment and critical-thinking skills.
- Ability to recognize and respond to cardiac arrhythmias and emergency situations.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Fast-paced hospital environment requiring 12-hour shifts (days/nights/weekends/holidays) as needed.
- Ability to stand, walk, and lift patients or equipment (up to 50 lbs.) during shifts.
- Exposure to infectious diseases, bloodborne pathogens, and hazardous materials (PPE provided).
