Our client within the industrial drill assembly industry is seeking a skilled and experienced Purchasing Agent to join their internal procurement team. Reporting to the Production Supervisor, the Purchasing Agent will be responsible for managing and optimizing the purchase of goods and services.
Within this role you will evaluate suppliers, handle purchase orders, monitor inventory, and ensure timely delivery of quality materials. You should possess excellent negotiation skills, a deep understanding of procurement practices and have proficiency in managing an ERP database (Great Plains).
Key Responsibilities:
- Research and evaluate suppliers, goods, and services to ensure the best quality and cost-efficiency for Mobile Drill.
- Utilize ERP system to manage the procurement process, from order creation to payment.
- Analyze inventory levels and forecast procurement needs to maintain optimal stock levels.
- Request cost proposals, negotiate contracts, and secure competitive pricing with suppliers.
- Prepare, process, and track purchase orders to ensure timely and accurate deliveries.
- Maintain detailed records of all transactions, purchase orders, receipts, and payments within Great Plains ERP database.
- Schedule, track, and confirm the delivery of purchases, ensuring that all materials arrive on time and are in good condition.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure reliability and favorable terms.
- Collaborate with internal teams to meet operational needs and address any procurement-related issues.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; a degree in business administration, procurement, or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Purchasing Agent or in a similar procurement role
- Proficiency in ERP, inventory management and CRM software, with a strong focus on Great Plains.
- Strong negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to build lasting relationships with suppliers.
- Excellent organizational and documentation skills, with keen attention to detail.
- Ability to analyze data and make informed purchasing decisions based on cost, quality, and availability.
- Previous experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment is preferred.
