Position: Senior Project Engineer - Electrical
Role Overview:
The Senior Project Engineer - Electrical will lead the design, development, and construction of electrical infrastructure for geothermal energy developments. This includes overseeing electrical system integration, substations, high-voltage transmission lines, and distribution networks while ensuring regulatory compliance. The role involves project initiation, scoping, budgeting, execution planning, and construction oversight.
Location:
Based in Houston, TX, with hybrid work flexibility and some required travel.
Responsibilities:
- Lead engineering design and construction of substations, transmission interconnections, and electrical distribution for geothermal energy facilities.
- Oversee power generation facilities and associated infrastructure, including geothermal plants and transmission systems.
- Develop project schedules, budgets, and specifications, working with utilities for interconnection buildouts.
- Serve as primary technical lead in negotiations with electrical equipment suppliers.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless project execution.
- Implement continuous improvement in electrical system performance and reliability.
- Provide technical support to operations teams and develop operating and maintenance procedures.
- Lead risk assessments, process hazard analyses, and the Management of Change (MOC) process.
- Interface with regulatory bodies, ensuring compliance with electrical safety standards.
- Evaluate and assess emerging electrical transmission technologies for geothermal projects.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
- 7 years of experience in facilities engineering, with expertise in substations, high-voltage transmission, and distribution systems.
- Strong experience with utility interconnection processes and grid compliance.
- In-depth knowledge of electrical infrastructure design and industry standards (e.g., IEEE, NESC, NFPA).
- Proven track record of managing complex infrastructure projects within budget and schedule.
- Proficiency in project management tools (e.g., Primavera, MS Project) and electrical design software (e.g., ETAP, SKM).
- Excellent communication skills for presenting technical information.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in renewable energy or geothermal power generation projects.
- Advanced expertise in utility-scale substation design and high-voltage transmission.
- Experience in managing engineering contractors for transmission and distribution projects.
