Job Summary :

The Infant Toddler Development Specialist is responsible for the development and implementation of all training and technical assistance for Infant and Toddler childcare providers, and thus requires limited travel. The individual Infant Toddler Development specialist will :

  • provide professional development technical assistance (i.e., training, coaching, feedback, and observation and reflection) to teachers and childcare professionals serving the birth-to-age three population
  • serve licensed childcare centers, licensed group day care homes, registered family day care homes, and other preschool programs in a twelve-county region
  • share resources and referrals to community and state partner agencies / programs (i.e., early intervention, Help Me Grow Alabama, infant early childhood mental health consultation, Parenting Assistance Line, and others) with participating teachers
  • administer relevant assessments (i.e., CLASS, PITC, and / or others) and collate and maintain data for reporting
  • establish connections to the Infant Toddler Professional Development Network (ITPDN) in the applicable region among other partner programs and resources
  • engage in community outreach, with recruitment of new classrooms, teachers, and programs

JOB DUTIES

of time Duties / Responsibilities

60 Individual child development specialists assume responsibility for one or more of the following aspects of program operation : observe, assess and provide strategies to assist teachers and caregivers to develop attitudes and skills which serve as a foundation for high-quality interactions and care of infants and toddlers

15 Conducting training workshops for providers in the quality enhancement agency region

20 Preparing training for early childhood providers in a variety of areas as outlined by state requirements

5 Conducting evaluations, and collecting and reporting data

Requirements

Required Minimum Qualifications :

Bachelor's degree and one (1) year of experience in Child Development, Parent Education, or direct service with families; OR a Master's degree or higher in child development, early childhood / elementary education, or Family Studies.

Valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age and have an acceptable motor vehicle report

as determined by the insurance carrier.

Skills and Knowledge :

  • Strong knowledge of early childhood development, especially infant and toddler development
  • Familiarity with Alabama Standards for Early Learning and Development and Teaching Strategies GOLD.
  • Familiarity with early childhood assessments and tools related to interactions, environments, infant / toddler group care, and others, such as : Infant-Toddler Environment Rating Scale (ITERS); Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (ECERS); Class Assessment Scoring System (CLASS); and Program for Infant and Toddler Care Program Assessment Rating Scale (PITC PARS).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse stakeholders and collaborators.
  • Knowledge of / experience with early childhood systems such as childcare licensing, Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS), professional development, family engagement, assessment, and others.
  • Preferred Qualifications (Add any additional qualifications preferred by the department) :

  • Experience working in early care and learning settings.
  • Experience providing training and facilitating groups.
