POSITION: Art Teacher
QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid Alabama Teacher’s Certification

REPORTS TO: Principal
JOB GOAL:
To develop in each pupil an interest in and the ability for expressing himself creatively in visual terms, utilizing
skills and techniques of artistic expression appropriate to
the pupil’s interest and abilities; to develop aesthetic
understandings and appreciation; to discover and develop
talent of pupils in the field of art.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teaches knowledge and skills in art, including crafts, drawing, painting, lettering, design, commercial art, art history, and three-dimensional art to secondary pupils following the course of study adopted by the Board of Education, and other appropriate learning activities.

Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
Provides instruction by which pupils develop aesthetic concepts and appreciation and the ability to make qualitative judgments about art.
Demonstrates techniques in activities such as drawing, painting, and modeling, using standard and teacher-prepared instructional aids.
Develops instructional plans and organizes class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and working time.
Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils with varying intellectual and artistic abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities.
Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly and productive studio environment.
Instructs pupils in proper care and use of tools and equipment.
Organizes storage areas and controls use of materials, equipment and tools to prevent loss or abuse, and to minimize time required for distribution and collection.
Evaluates each pupil’s performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understanding and prepares progress reports.
Selects and requisitions books, instructional materials, tools, instructional aids, and maintains required inventory records.
Plans and presents art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit pupils’ work for the school and the community. May sponsor exhibits from outside.
- Maintains professional competence through inservice education activities provided by the district and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.

Maintains record of pupil attendance and makes daily reports of pupils absent each period.
Communicates with teachers and parents on pupil progress.
Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school of assignment or on a district level.
17. Other reasonable duties as may be assigned by the Principal.
EVALUATION:
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with
provisions of the Board’s policy.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Nine months. Salary according to proper placement on
current salary schedule.
