Position: Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Student Learning
Reports to: Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent
Supervises:
Coordinator of Literacy Instruction
Coordinator of Numeracy
Coordinator of Secondary Programs/Career Technical Education
Coordinator of Community Education, E Curriculum and Pre-K Programs
Coordinator of Personnel
Qualifications:
Alabama Certification in School Administration
Master’s Degree in School Administration
Minimum 3 years successful school administration experience Central Office Experience Preferred
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
Performance Responsibilities:
- Assists in the development of the school system philosophy of education and in the recommendation of appropriate school system policies for educational needs.
- Researches, prepares drafts, and recommends appropriate policies and instructional programs essential to the needs of students. Provide subsequent interpretation to staff, students, employees, and the community at large.
- Keeps abreast of legal requirements, state, and federal regulations and the impact of such requirements and regulations on the school system. Monitors and enforces school system compliance with instructional policies and regulations.
- Provides leadership in establishing new programs, modifying existing programs, and building an improved understanding of educational services and programs.
- Coordinates the planning, designing, and implementation of the instructional program for the district. Works cooperatively with central office staff and local school administrators to encourage, explain, and enhance the most effective instructional strategies for students.
- Assists principals with the evaluation and mentoring of educational personnel.
- Collaborates with various Coordinators on the appropriate procedures for the selection and implementation of instructional programs.
- Assists in the recruiting, selection, and recommendation for employment of educational personnel.
- Assists with personnel matters involving all employees; monitor and enforce personnel policies and procedures outlined by statute, judicial standard, and/or federal/state/local agencies
- Supervises the timely and accurate filing of all appropriate reports and documents including RTI, field trip requests, etc.
- Develops appropriate budget recommendations and coordinates these recommended programs with other areas, including literacy, numeracy, secondary education, pre-k and E curriculum.
- Responsible for development and supervision of any contracted educational services.
- Interprets the philosophy, objectives, and available educational services to staff and public.
- Consults with parents as needed and nurtures positive parental involvement whenever possible.
- Responsible for curriculum development, RTI, Numeracy and Literacy Initiatives.
- Establishes an environment which encourages creativity, collaboration, communication, and critical thinking through Project-Based Learning (PBL).
- Collaborates to plan, develop, and deliver professional development activities in the areas of Project-Based Learning and other instructional strategies; creates training materials to increase the use of the PBL methodology and instructional technologies.
- Coordinate district benchmark assessments for all subject areas at all grade levels using digital/online assessment programs.
- Represent the school system at federal, state, civic, and professional meetings.
- Coordinate District Accreditation process, including STEM Certification.
- Coordinate the development and implementation of a staff development program based on the instructional needs and curriculum components of the school system including a professional development management system.
- Develop and implement programs to increase the graduation rate/decrease the dropout rate and to improve the State Report Card.
- Assist in the implementation of and monitoring of programs designed for credit recovery, grade recovery, summer school, state testing remediation, and/or college test preparation.
- Assists other coordinators with instructional competitions and programs such as the Talladega county Spelling Bee, Teacher of the Year recognition program, and the Technology Showcase.
- Coordinate the textbook adoption process including materials acquisition and communication with the committee.
- Assists with the coordination of academic supports for students in alternative settings.
- Assists with prospective teacher interviews, new teacher orientation, and teacher evaluations.
- Responsible for evaluating and approving field trips and fundraising activities.
- Assists in monitoring Continuous Improvement Planning at the school system levels.
- Analyzes and interprets data, presents data to appropriate stakeholders, and develops a plan to address instructional weaknesses identified by the data.
- Serves on a system-wide discipline committee as applicable.
- Any other duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent.
EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve-month contract. Salary according to proper placement on coordinator salary schedule.
