POSITION: Gifted Education Teacher

REPORTS TO: Principal
Coordinator, Special Education Services
JOB GOAL: To guide students toward reaching their potential for intellectual, emotional, psychological, and physical growth and maturation through provision of appropriate learning experiences.
Essential Functions:
1. Participate in the efficient and effective operation of the school and school system. Responsibilities will include participation in planning meetings, conferences, and various committees.
2. Follow the courses of study approved by the Alabama State Board of Education and curriculum guides and textbooks approved and adopted by the Talladega County Board of Education. Other material used for instructional purposes must be approved by the principal.
3. Assist in fostering positive student attitudes through teaching the values of citizenship, self-discipline, morality, respect for others and patriotism in all activities of the school.
4. Prepare for classes assigned, show written evidence of preparation upon request of principal at the local school, and maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning.
5. Keep accurate, complete records and evaluate student progress and complete all special education forms and reports as required by law, Board policy and administrative regulations.
6. Take reasonable precautions to protect students and to safeguard all equipment, materials and facilities.
7. Cooperate with other staff members in planning school activities, instructional goals, objectives, methods, and faculty meetings.
8. Coordinate the scheduling of and conduct joint GEP meetings when students transition to another school or program.
9. Accept no other employment which interferes with the efficient and effective discharge of teacher duties and responsibilities.
10. Abide by the standards established by the Talladega County Board of Education for professional and personal conduct of teachers.
11. Uphold and enforce Talladega County Board of Education policy as well as all state and federal guidelines, regulations, and/or laws which relate to students identified as gifted.
12. Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
13. Promote good public relations for the Talladega County School System.
14. Engage in other reasonable duties during school necessary to the safe and effective operation of the school when requested by the principal.
15. Provide consultative services to teachers, counselors and parents.
16. Coordinate second grade screening procedures and gifted referrals as required by Alabama State Department of Education.
17. Foster communication between all agencies involved with the students.
18. Participate in GEP Team meetings and complete appropriate paperwork to document all activities of the GEP Team.
19. Develop, write, implement, monitor, and revise, when appropriate, Gifted Education Plans for all students assigned for case management.
20. Develop any curricular programs needed to adequately implement students’ Gifted Education Plans.
21. Other reasonable duties as may be assigned by the Principal or Coordinator.
EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine-month contract. Salary according to proper placement on current salary schedule.
