REPORTS TO: Principal
JOB GOAL: To develop in each pupil an appreciation of the art of music as part of general culture; to teach techniques of instrumental or vocal music expression; to discover and develop talents of pupils in the field of music; to develop knowledge and skills in listening to and reading music.
Essential Functions:
- Teaches skills in music association, harmony and explorations in music, and in instrumental music and choral music.
- Plans a balanced music program, and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
- Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the need of each pupil.
- Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of pupils.
- Controls the storage and use of school owned property; makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to instruments as required.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during class, practice, group rehearsals and musical performances.
- Evaluates each pupil’s musical growth and performance, assessing each individual’s contribution to the performance of the group.
- Plans, rehearses, and directs pupils in musical programs for school and community.
- Selects and requisitions books, musical instruments and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records.
- Communicates with parents, counselors and school administrators on pupil progress.
- Follow the courses of study approved by the Alabama State Board of Education and curriculum guides and textbooks approved and adopted by the Talladega County Board of Education. Other material used for instructional purposes must be approved by the principal.
- Assist in fostering student attitudes through teaching the values of citizenship, self-discipline, morality, and patriotism in all activities of the school.
- Prepare for classes assigned, show written evidence of preparation upon request of principal at the local school, and maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Keep accurate, complete records and evaluate student progress as required by law, Board policy and administrative regulations.
- Take reasonable precautions to protect students and to safeguard all equipment, materials and facilities.
- Cooperate with other staff members in planning school activities, instructional goals, objectives, methods, and faculty meetings.
- Accept no other employment which interferes with the efficient and effective discharge of teacher duties and responsibilities.
- Abide by the standards established by the Talladega County Board of Education for professional and personal conduct of teachers.
- Uphold and enforce Talladega County Board of Education policy.
- Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Promote good public relations for the Talladega County School System.
- Engage in other reasonable duties during school necessary to the safe and effective operation of the school when requested by the principal.
- Other reasonable duties as may be assigned by the Principal.
EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine, ten, or twelve month contract. Salary according to proper placement on current salary schedule.
