POSITION: Special Education Instructional Assistant/Bus Assistant
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must meet Highly Qualified Paraprofessional Status: 48 Semester hours of college coursework OR an Associate's Degree OR passing scores on the WorkKeys assessment (Business Writing, Applied Math, Workplace Documents)
Current and active application on file
Hold or be willing to secure a Commercial Drivers
License (CDL)

REPORTS TO: Coordinating Teacher/Principal
JOB GOAL: To provide safe and efficient transportation and to assist the teacher in the care and education of students as assigned.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Loads students safely onto and off the bus.
- Makes certain that wheelchairs are locked and Q-straps, brackets and other wheelchair apparatus are secure.
- Secures students in car seats, booster seats and/or seat belts.
- Insures that all students follow the bus safety guidelines.
- Checks the bus after students are unloaded to make certain that no student is left on the bus.
- Assists in maintaining student discipline.
- Maintains proper and professional relationship with students and other employees.
- Maintains confidentiality of special education students and the school system at all times.
- Assists co-workers as needed.
- Assists the classroom teacher in the implementation of the IEP and in preparing instructional materials.
- Supervises individual students and/or group activities as assigned.
- Assists students with toileting skills.
- Assists the classroom teacher in regards to helping students with personal hygiene.
- Assists the classroom teacher in the preparation, feeding and clean-up of all meals.
- Performs necessary housekeeping duties not assigned to the custodial staff.
- Performs duties in a manner that promotes good public relations.
- Assists teacher or bus driver in performing other related duties as emergencies may warrant.
- Assists in the care, education and personal needs of special education students in other schools as assigned. Changes of assignments will be in accordance with Talladega County Board of Education policy.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine (9) month – 8 hour work day
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of support personnel.
WORK HOURS: Reporting time to school and dismissal will be set by the supervisor within the 8 hour work day.
