What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Coordinator position at Tallahassee School of Math & Science?
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited educational institution (Master’s preferred)
- Valid Florida Educator Certificate with coverage in Exceptional Student Education (ESE)
- Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience in ESE preferred
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local ESE regulations and compliance requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- In-depth knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and other relevant ESE legislation
- Expertise in developing, reviewing, and monitoring IEPs, EPs, IFSPs, and Service Plans (SP) to ensure compliance with state and federal guidelines
- Ability to lead and facilitate IEP and eligibility meetings in collaboration with school teams and families
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in maintaining accurate and timely documentation for all ESE students
- Skilled in providing coaching and professional development to staff on ESE procedures, instructional strategies, and compliance updates
- Ability to interpret and communicate student data to guide decisions on intervention and instruction
- Knowledge of inclusive practices and ability to support general education teachers in accommodating and modifying curriculum for students with disabilities
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for working with staff, students, families, and district personnel
- Ability to collaborate with administrators, school psychologists, speech and language pathologists, and other support staff
- Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all students
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee ESE compliance and services across grade levels at the school site
- Support the development, implementation, and monitoring of IEPs, EPs, IFSPs, and SPs
- Ensure timely completion of ESE evaluations, re-evaluations, and progress monitoring
- Serve as the primary liaison between the school and district ESE department
- Lead professional development for instructional staff related to ESE topics
- Coordinate with general education teachers to ensure the delivery of accommodations, modifications, and services
- Monitor and ensure accurate ESE records in PEER and other data systems
- Assist with parent communication and involvement related to ESE processes
- Contribute to school-wide planning, data analysis, and decision-making to support students with disabilities
