Role Description
The Wetumpka Herald and The Tallassee Tribune are looking for a dynamic & talented sports reporter to continue award-winning coverage in our growing Elmore County communities. This is a full-time on-site role located in Wetumpka, AL covering six high schools & the region around the South's largest recreational lake - Lake Martin. We are looking for a thoughtful writer who can spotlight the community's student-athletes while producing balanced and in-depth coverage. Additional, the proximity to Lake Martin offers the opportunity to cover recreation, water sports, and outdoor news. The ideal candidate will love youth & high school sports as much as the people who live in Elmore County. Our coverage has received statewide recognition, a tradition we plan to continue.
Social media skills are important because the community is hungry for up-to-date local sports news. Basic photography skills & knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite are helpful but not essential.
Qualifications
- Sports Writing, News Writing, and Writing skills
- Experience in reporting on sports events and football
- Strong communication and storytelling abilities
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- A passion for sports and knowledge of the local sports scene
