The Technical Accounting Manager is responsible for research, documentation and implementation of complex accounting and reporting issues, reviews financial statements for multiple entities, and oversees the accounting for our trading and marketing business.
Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities
- Carry out research on intricate and complex accounting matters in order to develop a fact-based conclusion to ensure suitable application of authoritative accounting guidance, including drafting relevant technical accounting memos to support these conclusions. Present issues, options, and recommendations to management, including working with our external auditors to reach a definitive conclusion.
- Carry out research of technical accounting literature, perform an evaluation of new accounting standards’ impact to the company’s financial statements to include working with other areas of the organization to understand current accounting practices to determine and conclude how new accounting standards will impact processes and procedures, as well as ensure controls over financial reporting are redesigned as necessary.
- Build relationships with many stakeholders from all areas of the organization in order to be successful - Executive Team, Finance, Operations, Internal Audit, IT, and Regulatory teams,
- Support other areas of the organization to find solutions to unusual accounting matters that may arise from time to time.
- Perform ongoing assessments for complex accounting areas such as impairment, fair value accounting, derivative accounting, consolidation analysis, revenue recognition, lease accounting, acquisition accounting, etc.
- Review financial statements for multiple entities, ensuring proper application of GAAP and SEC disclosure requirements.
- Demonstrate leadership and management in a manner that positively motivates and supports company values and policies.
- Work proactively with external auditors to drive timely resolutions for technical accounting matters.
- Will work non-traditional hours as needed.
- Maintain a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets and employees, and the public.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum requirements:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in accounting or a related discipline.
- Active Certified Public Accountant License (CPA)
- Advanced proficiency level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- 8 years progressive work experience in public accounting or combination of public accounting/industry accounting.
- Advanced knowledge of US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements, including experience with complex accounting matters.
- Active Certified Public Accountant License (CPA)
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).
- Excellent technical accounting, analytical, written communication and organizational skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with various levels of finance staff and management.
- Ability to multi-task and adhere to strict deadlines and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment.
- Express a high degree of intellectual curiosity.
- Ability to analyze financial data and clearly and concisely document the interpretation of financial analysis.
- Effectively escalate issues and keep managers and peers well informed on an ongoing basis.
- Attentive to details, diligent and proactive.
- Ability to research, interpret and document understanding of complex accounting matters.
- Excellent customer service skills and ability to work with all levels of management as well as employees in corporate and field offices.
- Must be able to perform all essential and marginal functions of the job.
- Must be able to work with a team, take direction from management, adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.
- Ability to successfully perform multiple tasks with strict deadlines.

- Familiarity with FERC Reporting is beneficial.
- Accounting/financial system experience is a plus: e.g. Oracle, Workiva.
- Energy Industry experience is preferred, but not required

Compensation
- The annual salary range for this position will be $125,000 - $165,000/ yr.
