Primary Purpose

JOB DESCRIPTION

Tallgrass seeks a drilling engineering manager to lead, design and execute drilling programs at Tallgrass, with a primary focus in support of CO2 sequestration projects and secondary focus in support of gas storage and other Tallgrass drilling activity.

Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Manage team of internal, external engineers and drilling operations personnel and vendors to achieve company drilling and well construction goals, specifically sequestration and gas storage.
  • Collaborate closely with integrated multidisciplinary team of subsurface professionals to develop well cost models, drill afe's, drill program schedules and procedures.
  • Lead routine lessons learned discussions and end of well reviews
  • Generate and track key KPIs of the wells group and regularly report to larger team and management
  • Track and analyze well cost and working with team to ensure accuracy of field estimates
  • Work with Tallgrass Environmental Health and Safety to lead the development and implementation of safety plans and protocols for drilling, well construction and workover operations
  • Lead the effort to draft Tallgrass drilling standards specifically for sequestration
  • Maintain subject matter level expertise and familiarity with regulator CO2 sequestration well design requirements including EPA, CARB, WDEQ, LA DNR, ND DMR, etc.
  • Serve as a mentor to less experienced engineers and multidisciplinary staff
  • Regularly research and recommend improved methods, techniques and technology to improve program safety, effectiveness, efficiency.
  • Ensure drilling program design and execution is in accordance with regulatory requirements and Tallgrass policies and procedures.
  • Manage 24/7 operations to keep workers safe, protect the environment, minimize NPT and deliver projects on time and on budget.
  • Deal with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy and professionalism.
  • Speak clearly, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills and listen carefully.
  • Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and a consistently high level of performance.
  • Will work non-traditional hours as needed.
  • Maintain a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public.
  • Other daily, weekly, monthly or special project duties as identified and defined.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering or a related Engineering degree.

Experience/Specific Knowledge

  • 5 plus years’ experience managing a team of drilling professionals Engineers and Rig Supervisors in the successful planning and execution of multi-rig drilling projects (US Onshore, Conventional, Sequestration and/or Gas Storage experience preferred)
  • 10 plus years of drilling experience in multiple basins (1 year field based experience preferred)
  • Advanced proficiency level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Certifications, Licenses & Registrations

  • IADC Well Control certified
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).

  • Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage multiple groups comprised of professionals with varying disciplines, backgrounds, and experience levels.
  • Experience developing and managing budgets.

  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from management, adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.
  • Ability to successfully perform multiple tasks with strict deadlines.

  • Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time.

Working Conditions

  • Travel is required and is anticipated 25% of the time during project milestones.
  • Required to carry a cell phone, and be available to respond during working and non-working hours.
  • The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, including credit report for certain positions, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.

  • Manage drilling engineer(s) professionals

Compensation

  • The annual salary range for this position will be $187,200 - $250,895/yr.

Compensation: Compensation ranges are provided in good faith based on what we anticipate when researching wages for this position at the state and national levels. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This salary range may also be modified in the future.
