Import Specialist
Location: Cranford, NJ
Pay: $65,000 - $75,000 per year
Job Type: Full-time
A global importer and exporter is seeking an experienced Import Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in freight forwarding, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and update key customer master profiles based on client requirements.
- Provide sales support for key import accounts.
- Investigate and resolve operational issues.
- Handle both ocean and air import operations.
- Delegate tasks according to management directives.
- Ensure team compliance with the Operational Data Quality Policy, including training and file auditing.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships, serving as a point of escalation when needed.
- Review and process import documentation such as B/L, AWB, manifests, invoices, and packing lists within strict timeframes.
- Ensure timely receipt of all required documents from overseas agents.
- Maintain compliance with AMS and ISF filing regulations.
- Track and trace shipments and issue arrival notices promptly.
- Expedite inbound cargo for customs clearance.
- Prepare, route, and distribute manifests as required.
- Arrange and approve payments for charges due.
- Handle billing, distribution, and collection of funds related to client shipments.
- Approve trucker bills, agent invoices, and SSL bills while resolving any billing disputes.
- Coordinate with the Brokerage Department for ISF filings and customs clearances.
- Communicate daily with overseas agents.
- Negotiate rates with vendors.
- Provide rate quotations to shippers and agents.
- Promote additional business opportunities for the company.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of experience in freight forwarding.
- Strong knowledge of FCL/LCL ocean cargo logistics and documentation.
- Familiarity with freight forwarding terminology and industry standards.
- Understanding of NVOCC operations, trucking, and carrier processes.
- Experience with Bills of Lading and general import procedures.
- Proficiency with CargoWise.
- Familiarity with ABI, AMS, and ACE.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Team-oriented with a willingness to support colleagues as needed.
