Student Nutrition Services Worker/Vending Machine Support

BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the general supervision of the Food Service Director, primary role is to assist kitchen sites with vending operations and serves as a substitute for food service positions as needed. Performs the duties necessary to provide meals under the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs. This position requires varied working locations
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Support sites in providing a quality vending program to students and staff.
Fills and inventories vending machines with product and money as needed.
Collects coins and bills from vending machines
Maintain operation of vending machine/s; inspects and monitors vending machines; responds to vending alerts; read operators manual to troubleshoot malfunctions; clear jammed product or money
Notices SNS Director of the need to make service calls and communicate with other repair personnel for repairs
As needed, substitutes, in all food service classifications and job descriptions including, but not limited to, food service worker, cook, and food service manager
Travels to and from school sites during work hours. Transports food and supplies between kitchen sites.
Clean and sanitize vending machines, bill validate weekly and brush the dust from coil filters. Clean kitchen areas, equipment and district transport vehicle as needed
Uses equipment including but not limited to vending machine/s, oven, tilt skillet, microwave, warmer, and three-compartment sink
Attends regularly scheduled staff training.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Basic food preparation and assembling food items and ingredients for large groups. Sanitation and safety practices related to preparing, handling, and serving food. Standard kitchen equipment, utensils, and measurements.
Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
Basic math and cashiering skills.
Proper lifting and moving techniques.
ABILITY TO:
Perform physical work
Read and comprehend vending equipment operation manuals
Operate a computer and perform cashiering duties as assigned
Understand and carry out oral and written directions
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others Plan and organize work
Meet established schedules and timelines
Make basic math computations
Lift 40 pounds
Follow the District Disaster Preparedness Plan.
DESIRABLE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: ·
High school diploma (or equivalency)
One year of paid experience in institutional food preparation and service
REQUIREMENTS:
Valid ServSafe Certificate.
Valid State of California Driver’s License and insurable under district coverage Department of Justice fingerprint clearance.
TB clearance.

Food service environment. Subject to heat from ovens.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Standing for extended periods of time.
Ability to see , read and monitor food quality and quantity.
Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone. Dexterity of hands and fingers to prepare foods and operate food service equipment. Bending at the waist, crouching, kneeling, stooping, climbing, and balancing to reach materials. Reaching overhead, above shoulders, and horizontally.
Lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling moderately heavy objects as assigned by position (up to 45 pounds).
POTENTIAL HAZARDS:
Heat from ovens.
Exposure to very hot foods, equipment, and metal objects.
Working around knives, slicers, or other sharp objects.
Exposure to cleaning chemicals and fumes.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $24.33 - $39.69 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
