Estate Planning Legal Assistant
An established estate planning firm in Sonora, California is seeking an energetic and experienced legal assistant for a temporary, 8 to 12 week, position with potential for permanent employment.
We are a small law firm in a beautiful town in the Sierra Nevada foothills that helps people protect their assets through estate planning, including protecting assets from being exhausted with nursing home costs, and helps families work through the process of administering estates after their loved one has died.
We have a team member on maternity leave and need assistance during her absence.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Greeting clients and visitors to our office, both by telephone and in person, in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner (even if they don’t always reciprocate);
- Scheduling client appointments with attorneys;
- Communicating politely, respectfully, and professionally, in a clear and concise manner, with our team members, our clients, and other professionals;
- Working with people who are grieving the loss of a loved one and in need of guidance and compassion as they work through the process of organizing and finalizing that person’s affairs;
- Placing out-bound phone calls to remind clients of their upcoming, confirming their attendance, and sometimes reminding them about any missing documents or information that they'll need to bring;
- Assembling documents and information in ways that make it useful to others:
- Assisting attorneys and paralegals preparing documents for filing with court; and
- Completing other projects, as requested.
Some of these tasks will need to be completed simultaneously and precisely. Therefore, the person we hire must be able to multitask.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
- 2 years of experience as an administrative assistant (preferably in a law firm), legal assistant or legal secretary
- Detail-oriented and highly organized
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and professional demeanor
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
