What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mascot position at Tampa Bay Rays?
The Marketing department executes brand growth and revenue driving campaigns across the club’s business operations, including efforts involving ticket sales, community initiatives, DEI, etc.
The department is seeking an Entertainment Specialist that will manage our mascot program and provide entertainment performing as our mascot Raymond.
Raymond interacts with fans of all ages at every Tampa Bay Rays home game and numerous community events.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Perform as Tampa Bay Rays mascot Raymond at all home games at Tropicana Field engaging with members of our fanbase. Duties include greeting fans, crowd prompts, in-game skits, in-game features, seat visits, mascot races and other duties as assigned
- Dictating Raymond and other mascots presence and movement at all Tampa Bay Rays home games
- Perform as Raymond at numerous community events in the Tampa Bay area. Events include parades, festivals, little league openings, corporate gatherings, and other special appearance requests
- Maintain characteristics of Raymond’s established persona, maintaining consistency of mannerisms, behaviors, and appearance across all events
- Maintain and repair all mascot costumes including Raymond, DJ Kitty and other characters
- Train all part time mascot staff and ensure mascot performers act on brand
- Train all mascot handlers and make sure they are meeting the needs of the costumed performers
- Work with the Promotions and events coordinator to make sure all external mascot appearances are covered
- Provide feedback to the events team following appearances to help improve fan engagement and the impact of activations
- Collaborate with the Rays social media team on Raymond social channels
- Source vendors and establish a good working relationship to ensure proper maintenance of mascot costume and oversee the management of inventory of costume items, accessories, props, and signage.
- Ideate talent, props and scripts to develop family-friendly skits and crowd interactions in stadium for the mascots. Partner closely with Game entertainment team to ensure mascot elements align with game theme, heritage nights and holidays
- Manage Rays presence at Tampa Bay area parades including registration and day of logistics. Work with 3rd party vendor on parade float logistics (drivers, maintenance, enhancements)
- Maintain and service Rays vehicles (fuel, car wash, maintenance, repairs) via 3rd party
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE :
- 3 years of experience as a mascot performer
- Must have the ability to develop strong working relationships with internal and external clients.
- Strong organization and communication skills.
- Stunting, acting, dancing, gymnastics, and crowd leading experience is a plus
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office with focus on Word and Excel
- Ability to work nights and weekends
- Ability to work in all weather extremes for extended periods of time
- Ability to work independently and take initiative to meet the organization’s goals.
