PRIMARY JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the President & COO, and working with executives, managers and departments throughout the company, the Finance Director oversees all financial activities of the Times Publishing Company, and provides support and oversight as needed for its affiliate businesses, Tampa Bay Times, Tampa Bay Newspapers and Florida Trend Magazine.
Responsible for all financial reporting, the Finance Director develops and implements accounting policies, systems, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting to Times management team.
The Finance Director is an active and contributing member to the Times Strategic Planning team and works across the organization to provide support, coordination and represent the finance perspective in near-term and long-term strategy development as well as development and updates to the Times 5-year financial modeling.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leads and manages all aspects of the Finance department.
Works with the accounting staff to ensure all accounting and financial reporting activities are completed with accuracy and timeliness.
Provides management oversight to weekly cash flow and accounts payable decisions.
Prepares weekly and monthly cash flow statements and all necessary reporting for Times creditors.
Communicates with and meets with Times finance partners (lenders and banks) on an as needed basis. Maintains key banking relationships.
Develops special reports and metrics for Times management.
Working with the Times management team to provide coordination, support, and oversight to the annual budgeting process.
Oversees, develops, and implements accounting policies, procedures, and systems to ensure company financial information is accurately stated.
Provides oversight and coordination for all external audits.
Provides oversight and coordination for all company tax filings and returns.
Stays abreast of and current with accounting changes and industry developments.
Maintains membership, participation, and connections in relevant trade associations.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business management.
Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a senior accounting role. Publishing company experience is a plus.
Experience working in accounting for a privately owned company.
