Shift: 8 Hr. X 5 Days
This is a flex position with shared reporting to Air Services and Lab Services. Assists with environmental air testing functions required by EPA, state, and local regulatory agencies for compliance with Title-V permits and environmental regulations. Applies labor and limited knowledge to perform testing under supervision of experienced Environmental Technicians. Performs fuel analysis for Lab, data gathering and sample handling. Position requires an awareness of safe work practices and working safely with hazardous materials and situations. Works under supervision on simple technical assignments. May assist in technical computations, preparation of data or other related work. Has minimal decision-making responsibility requiring discretion and independent judgment.
- Performs stack testing for environmental compliance, and other monitoring functions, accurately, safely, and effectively.
- Prepares supplies and equipment for testing and assists with the set-up for testing at power plant test locations or sites.
- Determine most appropriate method(s) of analysis to be performed on each sample, with confirmation from Sr. technician/specialist, Perform chemical and physical analysis on various samples and sample matrices, and report results to meet EPA & ASTM method criteria.
- Review data quality assurance procedures and perform limited quality control checks.
- Sample Recovery and retrieval from customers both internally and externally and coordinate workload to assure most efficient use of resources, and ensure samples are retrieved and analyzed in a timely manner.
- Assists with sample recovery efforts for water quality analysis as needed.
Required: High School diploma or equivalent.
Preferred: Two year degree in science or engineering technology.
Required: Must have a valid driver’s license
Preferred: Standard driving permit with trailer towing experience.
EXPERIENCE:
Required: Minimum of 2 years of work experience related to the Duties & Responsibilities of this position is required. Related experience consists of: sampling, instrumental operation, and analysis, data entry. College degree may be considered for up to 1 year of comparable experience
Preferred: Minimum of 2 years of direct work experience performing the Duties & Responsibilities of this position is preferred including experience in environmental testing activities.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Required: Knowledge of chemical analysis, with skills to perform computer applications, and ability to work with a team.
Preferred: Knowledge of chemistry, with a high level of spreadsheet skills, and ability to lead a team.

Job hours can sometimes exceed a 10 hour day normally on weekdays, with occasional night work. Working environment includes being outdoors in a power plant with heat, humidity, wet and/or cold conditions 50% of the test work day. Work site may be at extreme heights and a high level of noise.
- Lifting and carrying equipment up to 50 pounds, and walking, bending, and climbing 10% of the test work day. Setup/breakdown periods for testing may sometimes require hoisting equipment greater than 50 pounds, but not to exceed 80 pounds.
- Lifting and carrying equipment up to 30 pounds on metal grating platforms.
- Loading 40 pound gas cylinders into trucks or trailers.
- Driving or riding in a truck to a job site, and/or towing a trailer
- Climbing ladders up 50 feet without a resting point using safety belts/fall protection
- Working in a laboratory environment for 8 hours a day when performing analysis.
- Must pass a pulmonary fitness test and respirator fit test annually and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
