Essential Job Functions
- Design and format layouts for printed publications, ensuring visual consistency, readability, and adherence to brand guidelines.
- Collaborate with editorial teams to incorporate text, images, and other design elements effectively.
- Ensure layouts meet printing specifications and standards.
- Create engaging advertisements for clients, aligned with their branding and marketing objectives.
- Work closely with the sales team and clients to understand ad requirements and deliver revisions as needed.
- Develop and maintain a portfolio of ad templates for recurring clients.
- Work closely with writers, editors, and other designers to ensure cohesive design output.
- Present design concepts and ideas to clients and internal teams.
- Maintain open communication to meet deadlines and client expectations.
- Proof designs for accuracy, ensuring all content aligns with brand and client specifications.
- Optimize files for print production and digital formats.
- Ensure brand messages are consistent.
- Perform additional duties as necessary.
Position Requirements
- Attend staff meetings.
- 5 years of experience in graphic design, with a focus on publication layout and ad creation.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator).
- Experience with pre-press production and file preparation for printing.
- Strong typography, layout, and color theory skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and time management.
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Physical Requirements
- Lifting, pushing and pulling up to 10 pounds using proper body mechanics and/or available equipment as physically required—including but not limited to moving supplies and office furniture etc.
- Physical stamina – must be able to bend, kneel, and squat as required to maintain files and records, etc.
- Must be able to sit at a desk in an office environment at least 80% of the work shift. Ability to walk and standing intermittently for the remaining 20% of the assigned work day.
- Work is mainly performed in a weather controlled, air conditioned/heated facility. Facility is well lit and has minimal obstacles.
- Position uses typical office environment apparatus including computer, printer, fax machine and copier.
Reporting Relationships
- Work directly with the Editor In Chief and other key staff as necessary.
