Editorial Assistant

Job Summary

We are seeking an Editorial Assistant to join our team at The Jewish Press. The responsibilities of the Editorial Assistant include supporting all stages of the publication process, assisting in the coordination of workflows, and providing administrative support to the editorial team. Our ideal candidate is self-motivated, has a keen attention to detail, and outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Familiarity with the publishing process and experience in a similar role would be a significant advantage. The successful applicant will play an integral role in maintaining our commitment to publishing high-quality content.

Essential Job Functions

• Write Bar/Bat Mitzvah and other announcements as well as obituaries
• Compile the service schedules for the High Holidays and the listing of Passover Seders.
• Answer and direct phone calls
• Assist with advertising by
• Entering contracts in database
• Ensuring the insertion list matches ads in the papers for accuracy
• Communicate with the accounting department to ensure payments are applied to sales
  
  

Position Requirements

• Attend staff meetings as necessary.
• Skills necessary: research, knowledge of Microsoft Office and Internet, database usage experience, responsible, able to effectively communicate with JCCs & Federation constituents, knowledge of utilizing office equipment, superior organizational skills.
• Years of experience: At least 5 years in sales
• Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  
  

Physical Requirements

• Lifting, pushing and pulling up to 10 pounds using proper body mechanics and/or available equipment as physically required—including but not limited to moving supplies and office furniture etc.
• Physical stamina – must be able to bend, kneel, and squat as required to maintain donor files and records, etc.
• Must be able to sit at a desk in an office environment at least 80% of the work shift. Ability to walk and standing intermittently for the remaining 20% of the assigned work day.
• Work is mainly performed in a weather controlled, air conditioned/heated facility. Facility is well lit and has minimal obstacles.
• Position uses typical office environment apparatus including computer, printer, fax machine and copier.
