What are the responsibilities and job description for the Junior Summer Camp Counselor- Central City Family YMCA position at TAMPA METROPOLITAN AREA YMCA INC?
Under the direction of the Camp Director, the Summer Camp Junior Counselor will assist with providing support to the Summer Camp Counselors and Activity Instructors.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Safety and Risk Management
- Ensures all Tampa Y summer camp standards and best practices are implemented and followed. Applies YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to best practices, emergency procedures, medical and disciplinary situations and child abuse prevention.
- Ensures the health and safety of all children.
- Supports in inspecting classrooms and grounds to ensure the safety, orderliness, sanitation and cleanliness of facilities.
- Supports in monitoring meals and snacks periods, classroom and restroom activities, and playground activities to ensure a safe environment for young children.
Program Quality and Growth
- Supports Counselors and Activity Instructors with daily enrichment activities to promote individual child development.
- Supports in preparing materials and supplies for planned activities.
- Arranges classrooms for program activities to provide a proper learning environment.
- Supports in the monitoring of children during all activities where adult help is needed.
- Supports in reporting suspected child abuse and neglect to state agency.
- Be willing and able to complete other duties as directed by supervisor.
Leadership
Supports with the following:
- Follow proper staffing and ratios within the summer camp program at all times.
- Creating and maintaining meaningful and impactful relationships with the campers, supervisor and colleagues
- Attends and participates in workshops, in-service training and other meetings to acquire and disseminate information.
