What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Program Director - Specialty Programs position at TAMPA METROPOLITAN AREA YMCA INC?
Under the direction of the Center Operations Director, the Senior Program Director will oversee existing specialty programs and develop new program areas, meeting the needs and interests of the community. Initial responsibility will, in part, focus on the association’s competitive gymnastics program, supporting the development and preparation of team gymnasts for competition. The Sr. Program Director will also lead the recreational Gymnastics Programs at their assigned site(s) with responsibility for driving revenue for assigned programs as well as birthday parties, adult gymnastics, open gym, private instruction, seasonal and holiday camps, and develop new programs, to include cheer, dance and martial arts. In addition, this individual will streamline and coordinate all other Association gymnastics-related programing including tumbling, mommy and me classes, preschool gymnastics, homeschool gymnastics, and dance and cheer programs, to ensure program consistency and maximum utilization and productivity of gymnastics facilities. The Sr. Program Director will be responsible for the recruitment and development of coaches and gymnasts participating with the Tampa YMCA Gymnastics programs.
Critical areas of expertise include: Leading others and working in teams, ability to develop and execute new programs (i.e., Cheer and Dance), highly organized multi-program/site management, delivery and management of robust quality-focused programs, program creation and growth, successful oversight of part-time and full-time teams, and interviewing, hiring and successfully onboarding new associates.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
Program Quality and Growth
- In partnership with the Center Operations Director/Program Director, focuses on strategic plan initiatives, best practices and the elevation of the Top Flight gymnastics competitive team/recreational gymnastics as a "signature program” for the Tampa YMCA.
- Design and execution of Cheer and Dance programming.
- Assists in strategy implementation to achieve strategic plan targets for team growth in both registration numbers and revenue targets.
- Recruits and retains skilled instructors and coaches to ensure program quality and growth.
- Supports and implements association survey and measurement strategies and action plans - Base Metrics and NPS.
- Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations
- Responsible for effective communication with the parents of the program participants.
- Serves and actively participates on all committees, project teams, and innovation teams as assigned
- Attends and/or leads conferences, trainings, and business meetings as assigned. May require travel.
- Assists and/or leads in all areas, projects, or initiatives as assigned.
Team Leadership
- Leads the Association Gymnastics, Cheer, and Dance Service Delivery Team meetings. (Head coaches, North Brandon Program Director and representatives for any center that offers tumbling and/or cheer or dance.)
- Direct responsibility to hire, develop, motivate and retain a team of competitive/recreation instructors and coaches committed to the YMCA’s mission and Promise.
- Supervises/coaches staff to deliver quality programming creating increased member value.
- Serves as the Tampa YMCA representative at gymnastics meets and competitions and oversees logistics of staff members and gymnasts at gymnastics meets and competitions.
- Advocates for association-wide practices and is a source for innovative ways to grow the membership experience, base, and practices.
- Develops and monitors staff member development plans and training opportunities that promote career growth within the Y.
- Completes all job related, supervisory and other training as required.

Safety and Risk Management
- Ensures all Tampa Y standards and best practices are implemented and followed.
- Applies YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to best practices, emergency procedures, medical and disciplinary situations and child abuse prevention.
- Ensures all staff members are properly trained and prepared for emergency situations. This includes implementing and following training requirements in addition to ensuring proper reporting of all incidents/accidents according to risk management procedures.
- Ensures proper record keeping, including staff member certifications, staff member meetings and training, and daily logs for policy and procedural review.
- Monitors daily program operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health & safety regulations.
- Schedules staff members in accordance with program needs and ensures all safety and program ratios are followed.
- Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of equipment.
- Ensures staff at all levels within the program are safely spotting and lifting program participants.
