Pay Range: $31,200.00 - $60,159.07
Scope:
Performs duties monitoring and reporting Port Authority's vessel traffic movement and providing information to customers on port operations and facilities.
Essential Functions & Duties:
- Monitors and reports vessel traffic, arrival and departure times, berth utilization and cargo loading and unloading and other related activities to ensure correct billing.
- Ensures fresh water service is provided to vessels as requested.
- Reads water and electricity meters to document usage for proper billing.
- Responds to port customer inquiries related to port operations and facilities.
- Completes reports and logs to document vessel movement, arrival and departure times, loading and unloading activities, damage to port facilities and other events and activities.
- Assists in port truck scale operations as needed.
- Provides assistance, as directed, during emergency situations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Knowledge of the laws, regulations and County ordinances governing port operations.
- Knowledge of port operations policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of berthing and cargo logistics.
- Skill in the use of radio communications equipment.
- Ability to disseminate emergency information.
- Ability to maintain work related records and prepare reports.
- Ability and willingness to work rotating shifts to include nights, weekends and holidays.
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
- Ability to use a computer and related software.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to interact effectively, confidently and professionally with PTB officials and employees, PTB tenants and the general public.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and work independently.
- Must possess honesty, integrity and sound professional judgment.
Minimum Training & Experience Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED; and
- One or more years of experience involving public contact;
- Or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies listed above.
Special Requirements:
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver License.
- Must successfully pass a seaport security background check and compliance for a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
Work Environment:
- May require lifting (up to 50 lbs., bending, climbing, walking)
- Exposure to potentially hazardous chemical solutions
- Exposure to inclement weather
- On 24-hour emergency call
- Flexibility in work schedule as determined by responsibilities of this position.
Physical Demands

The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Frequent computer use.
- Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
- Port Tampa Bay Operations Department is a 24/7 operation. This is a full time position. The Employee must be flexible, able to work weekends, holidays, nights and requires response for Emergency and/or disasters. Shifts may be changed at any time at the discretion of Management and when deemed in the best interest of the Port.
