Job Summary
Essential Functions
Representative Duties: Under the general supervision of the Deputy Director, job incumbent will:
1. Provide and schedule at least one home visit per week per family, lasting at least one and one-half hours, integrating all of the Head Start components into each visit that includes education, health, nutrition and family services.
2. Work in partnership with parents to enhance their role as their child's primary educator, through regularly scheduled home visits and group socialization activities. Emphasizing the home as the primary learning environment.
3. Plan and conduct semi-monthly group socialization activities.
4. Maintain a caseload of up to twelve families.
5. Follow policies and procedures in regards to child abuse and neglect reporting.
6. Recruit new families and assists in the enrollment process.
7. Identify resources that will help strengthen the family unit. Assist families in accessing resources.
8. Advise appropriate coordinators of health, family services, and educational concerns.
9. Maintains records and documentation in child files in an accurate, organized manner.
10. Accurately reports activities and contacts in the required time frame. Reports include the program newsletter, family visit plans, family visit schedules, child file updates, menus, itemized food receipts, special needs service information, group socialization attendance, and group socialization plans.
11. Keeps accurate and up to date records of Family Partnership Agreements.1
2. Advocates and promotes parent involvement in program activities and family goals.
13. Attends scheduled parent meetings and reports on program activities, and provides parent educational opportunities.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
1. High School Diploma or GED.2
. Must be nineteen years of age.
3. Current Family Visitor Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) or ECE Certificate. A.A. in Early Childhood Education preferred. If does not meet minimum, agrees to enroll in and complete a CDA program within 12 months of hire and must complete a Training Employment Agreement at the time of hire.
4. Six months experience working with children and families.
5. Physical exam and negative TB clearance upon hire and every three years thereafter. DTaP vaccine recommended.
6. Must have or complete Infant/Child CPR and First Aid training within 30 days of hire.
7. Must obtain a Food Worker's card within 30 days of hire and maintain certification as required.
8. Must maintain strict confidentiality.
9. Must be able to work evening hours.1

1. Ability to maintain an effective working relationship over many months with families from diverse backgrounds, while respecting individual difference.
2. Strong understanding and sensitivity to diverse cultures and lifestyles, with demonstrated experience working effectively with Alaska Native populations.
3. Demonstrated respect for the family as the child's first teacher and demonstrated ability to represent Head Start well in the community.
4. Ability to travel outside of the community to attend training and conferences.
5. Must be dependable, responsible, self motivated and independent.
