Job Summary: Job incumbent will assist Tanana Chiefs Conference and its communities to reduce the prevalence of substance abuse and decrease the overall use of addicting and illicit substances among American Indian and Alaska (AI/AN) populations in accordance with proven effective prevention principles.
Adhere to the TCC Ch’eghwtsen’ model of service and guiding principle which requires providing timely and effective service along with the ability to interact with others in a way that inspires trust and demonstrates respect, compassion and empathy.

Representative Duties: Under general supervision of SAPTA Substance Abuse Prevention Project Coordinator, job incumbent will:
1. Provide training based on evidence-based approaches to key stakeholders on how to prevent, identify, and screen for substance abuse and drugs/opioids as needed.
2. Assist with coordinating and implementing evidence-based prevention programs, policies, and practices as needed throughout the subregions as directed.
3. Create age-appropriate materials and identify resources to help children address substance abuse and other drug related topics.
4. Provide drug education and information for parents and caregivers that reinforce family discussions about substance abuse and drugs/opioids.
5. Coordinate and facilitate meetings, community awareness and educational opportunities among rural community stakeholders inclusive of conducing media, public relations, presentations, trainings, and outreach/educational activities.
6. Collaborate and foster positive working relationships with other TCC programs and local, state, and federal agencies.
7. Assist in the preparation and submission of internal and external reports, including staff activity logs (SALS), monthly, quarterly and annual reports in compliance with state and federal granting agencies.
8. Maintain compliance with data collection requirements.

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Associate's Degree in Addictions, Human Services, Prevention, Social Work, or related mental health field or a combination of equivalent work related experience and education.
2. Two year experience working in the social services field.
4. Demonstrated experience successfully working with Alaska Native or American Indian and rural populations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Strong understanding of alcohol and drug prevention and treatment.
2. Knowledge of evidence-based approaches related to the prevention, identification/screening of substance or drug use.
3. Ability to speak in front of small and large groups.
4. Strong verbal, written, analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
5. Strong computer skills, with Knowledge of Windows, Power Point, Word, and Excel or similar programs required.
6. Knowledge and ability to adhere to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and 42 CFR Part 2 confidentiality regulations.
7. Familiarity with Alaska Native cultures and rural lifestyles required.
8. Ability to adapt to a continuously changing environment and duties.

6. Must pass background check pursuant to Alaska DHSS and federal Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act requirements.
7. Valid and clean driving record.

Supervision
Physical demands: Incumbent may be expected to work extended hours to complete tasks. Conditions include but are not limited to: travel by small un-pressurized aircraft, poor heat, lack of running water, and adverse weather conditions. Job incumbent must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds in support of equipment and supplies. Position requires sitting, standing, and considerable walking. Incumbent must be able to work effectively in a busy, sometimes stressful environment.

Summation: Under the direct supervision of the SAPTA Substance Abuse Prevention Project Coordinator, incumbent will assist programs within the Tanana Chiefs Conference region by providing training on and assisting with implementing evidence-based approaches on prevention, identification, and screening of alcohol and/or drug use and addiction. Incumbent will work with the programs to update policies, procedures, processes, and resources for alcohol and/or drug issues.
