Job Summary: Job incumbent will perform community prevention activities per the TCC Prevention Matrix for a Subregional Prevention Coordinator I. Job incumbent will assist TCC and its communities to reduce the incidents of suicide and substance abuse through prevention and training. Job incumbent will assist communities it providing monthly wellness and prevention activities. Job incumbent will provide assistance to subregional communties to reach community driven wellness and prevention initiatives. Job incumbent will assist in Wellness and Prevention community data collection.

Essential Functions

Representative Duties: Under general supervision of Wellness and Prevention Program Manager, job incumbent will:
1. Assist and support subregional communities to develop and implement Subregional Reclaiming Our People Action Plans
2. Provide and support rural coordinated crisis response efforts directed by Wellness and Prevention Program Manager.
3. Provide community-based education and activities related to wellness and prevention, health promotion, disease prevention, substance use prevention, suicide prevention, and healthy relationships.
4. Facilitate culturally relevant community activities such as talking circles, cultural workshops, culture camps, and culturally relevant wellness and prevention trainings.
5. Create age-appropriate materials and identify resources to help children address varying wellness and prevention topics as needed.
6. Assist with coaching communities on how to develop and strengthen new and existing wellness teams.
7. Assist with the collection of Wellness and Prevention data through varying survey methods such as the TCC Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS), focus groups, and grant surveys.
8. Prepare and submit internal and external reports, including staff activity logs (SALS), monthly, quarterly, and annual reports in compliance with state and federal granting agencies.
9. Collaborate and foster positive working relationships with other TCC programs and local, state, and federal agencies. Assist with and set-up wellness and prevention trainings with TCC divisions and varying partnering organizations.
10. Meet productivity standards as set by the Wellness and Prevention Director.
11. Must maintain strict confidentiality.

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Previous completion of competencies required for Prevention Coordinator I per the Subregional Prevention Coordinator Matrix.
2. Six months minimum experience in the performance of subregional prevention coordinator activities.
3. High school diploma or GED equivalent.
4. Training or experience in human development, social services, counseling, or related field preferred.
5. Knowledge and ability to adhere to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability act (HIPAA) and 42 CFR Part 2 confidentiality regulations.
6. Must pass background check pursuant to the State of Alaska background check and federal Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act requirements.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Must be able to serve as a community role model for health, wellness, and sobriety.
2. Ability to speak in front of small and large groups.
3. Strong verbal, written, analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
4. Strong computer skills, with knowledge of Windows, Power Point, Word and Excel or similar programs required.
5. Familiarity with Alaska Native cultures and rural lifestyles required.
6. Ability to cultivate respectful and collaborative working relationships with individuals in the community.
7. Must have attention to detail, follow through, and work as a team member.

Supervision
Physical Demands: Frequent travel to Interior villages required. Job incumbent may be expected to work extended hours to complete tasks. Conditions include but are not limited to: travel by small un-pressurized aircraft, poor heat, lack of running water, and adverse weather conditions. Job incumbent must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds in support equipment and supplies. Position requires sitting, standing, and considerable walking. Incumbent must be able to work effectively in a busy, sometimes stressful environment.
