A DAY IN THE LIFE:
A junior team member responsible for designing and analyzing mechanical systems and disposables for the Company’s medical devices.
Mechanical Engineer Intern’s at Tandem are also responsible for:
- Under supervision, participates in the research and development of mechanical components and systems for the Company’s medical devices, utilizing knowledge of mechanical theory and materials properties.
- Assists in the planning, designing, testing, analysis, and optimization of mechanical parts, components, moving mechanisms, precision assemblies, mechanical systems, equipment and packaging, and optical systems.
- Under supervision, designs and checks-out the modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype mechanical systems, experimental design, and specialized test equipment.
- Prototypes and iterates designs based on user needs and feedback and checks-out the modification, fabrication, and assembly of prototype mechanical systems.
- Reviews and updates tolerance analyses for components and assemblies.
- Under supervision, analyzes equipment to establish operating data, conducts experimental tests and evaluates results.
- Recommends selection of components and equipment based on supervisor feedback and analysis of specifications and reliability.
- Under supervision, ensures device performance under real-world conditions with design verification, including mechanical testing and reliability analysis.
- Embraces the Design Review process by participating in design reviews and maintaining design history files.
- Participates in evaluating the reliability of materials, properties and techniques used in production.
- Confirms completion of required training plan before assuming job responsibilities.
- Ensures work is performed in compliance with company policies including Privacy/HIPAA and other regulatory, legal, and safety requirements.
- Ability to work throughout the year part time during school year.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
Knowledge, skills & abilities:
- Some knowledge of Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
- Exposure to testing methodology in a manufacturing environment valuable.
- Exposure to rapid prototyping (3d printers, hand tools, etc.) equipment valuable
- Exposure to Python programming valuable
- Knowledge of Solid Works software a plus.
- Able to effectively convey information related to work product in one-on-one conversation or in a group.
- Able to work effectively in a team environment.
- Able to alter behavior and opinions in light of new information.
- Experienced with MS Office.
Minimum certifications/educational level:
- Working towards a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or related field or equivalent combination of education and applicable job experience.
Minimum experience:
- Intern experience in related environment valuable.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
The starting base pay range for this position is $30.00 - $34.00 per hour. Base pay will vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and may also fluctuate depending on candidate’s location and the overall job market.
