A DAY IN THE LIFE:
The VP of IT Platforms will be responsible for the technology operations, business applications, and digital transformation of the IT department. As a critical technology leadership role, the selected candidate will lead and manage the IT team to support the scalability of a fast-growing organization.
YOU’RE AWESOME AT:
IT Operations & Security
- Implements, supports, and manages the IT cloud platform and infrastructure (and operations to support all internal & external systems and applications).
- Defines, implements, and maintains voice, video, telephony and data/networking services for all systems and applications.
- Defines, implements, and maintains integration for all enterprise business events and systems, for real time or batched integrations and APIs.
- Manages the expansion of systems and applications at new company locations globally.
- Manages the infrastructure, systems & processes that support business continuity & recovery of company’s information systems including back-up, fail-over, and disaster recovery capabilities.
- Manages world class DevOps function to support development teams, business & enterprise systems, and customer facing services & applications.
- Drives the implementation of IT security systems necessary to support Cybersecurity compliance across all Enterprise IT Systems.
- Ensures the protection of the company’s data, tools, applications, and information systems.
- Ensures departments adherence to company policies, including Privacy/HIPAA, as well as other legal and regulatory directives.
Processes & Best Practices
- Leads, with support from the PMO organization, the IT Program Steering Committee as the key governance mechanism for the IT department.
- Responsible for systems administration, maintenance, back up, restoration and performance optimization.
- Defines repeatable procedures that will help the IT organization scale globally and across multiple locations.
- Defines and establishes metrics & monitoring tools that measure the performance and robustness of IT systems (e.g. uptime and system availability) as well as customer satisfaction for all IT services offered to the organization.
- Tracks and manages team performance based on metrics and service level agreements (SLA)
- Implements industry best practices as part of standard operating procedures and in support of the IT strategic roadmap.
Digital Platform & Cloud
- Defines the IT strategic roadmap for the expansion and evolution of the company’s technology capabilities, with strong focus on cloud-based integrations.
- Provides leadership, innovation, and oversight for multiple development teams comprising IT Platform: Integrations, Customizations, Data & Analytics, DevOps and Automation.
- Drives the implementation of digital platform to streamline key business processes, improve operational efficiencies that eliminate the need for linear scaling of staff in customer facing departments (e.g. Customer Technical Support and Customer Sales Support), and increase customer satisfaction metrics.
Data & Analytics
- Defines the IT strategic roadmap for the expansion and evolution of the company’s enterprise data and analytics capabilities.
- Provides leadership, innovation, and oversight for the enterprise data analytics function.
- Aligns data and analytics platform and project portfolio with departmental functions and delivers capabilities to support multiple Data Science teams.
- Build team and processing capacity to support company’s enterprise data and analytics needs.
Other
- Manages selection, development, performance appraisal, merit recommendation, and promotion of staff.
- Directs long and short-term planning including headcount, budgeting, training, and systems requirements.
- Supports the short-term planning for the department including headcount, budgeting, training, and systems requirements.
- Participates in the selection, development, performance appraisal, merit recommendation, and promotion of staff.
- Ensures department staff is properly trained, per designated training plan, before assuming job responsibilities.
- Develops and manages schedules and performance requirements of staff.
- Ensures compliance with company policies, including Privacy/HIPAA, and other legal and regulatory requirements.
EXTRA AWESOME:
- BS in computer science, information systems or equivalent combination of education and job experience.
- 15 years of relevant experience to include:
- Prior work experience for similar sized companies whose user base, technology needs & systems reflect current and future Tandem IT infrastructure.
- Progressive work advancement in IT positions implementing a varied portfolio of technologies.
- 10 years in a managerial capacity leading an IT department.
- Experience scaling and managing the IT department of a fast-growing company with multiple locations and a global presence.
- Knowledge of databases, cloud, infrastructure, & security systems that operate in a regulated environment (HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA).
- Strong process orientation with relevant experience implementing IT business processes.
- Experience implementing and managing performance metrics, SLAs and best practices in an IT department.
- Knowledge and implementation of customer facing enterprise systems and project management.
- Deep technical knowledge of business applications, integrations, cloud, mobile, and security technology:
- Working technical knowledge of current network protocols, operating systems, and standards.
- Ability to operate tools, components, and peripheral accessories.
- Ability to conduct research into complex issues and products as required.
- Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.
- Skilled at negotiating with customers or management and influencing senior level leaders regarding matters of significance to the organization.
- Adept at creating and communicating a clear vision among team members effectively aligning resources to achieve functional area goals.
- Skilled at effectively communicating department or area issues and results within and across functional areas and conducting presentations of technical information concerning specific projects or timelines. Able to gain cooperation of others.
- Skilled at effectively leading a cooperative team effort and organizing resources to achieve team goals. Able to make and prioritize process and resource decisions based on overall team needs.
WHEN & WHERE YOU’LL WORK:
This position will require you to come into the San Diego office as needed based on business demands.
Tandem will provide equipment for you to work remotely when not in office.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
The starting base pay range for this position is $275,000 - $325,000 annually. Base pay will vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and may also fluctuate depending on candidate’s location and the overall job market. In addition to base pay, Tandem offers a competitive compensation package that includes bonus, equity, and a robust benefits package.
