A leading financial organization is currently seeking a Data Center Technician to provide on-site technical support for data center operations and equipment in Plano, TX. This role ensures continuous availability, troubleshoots issues, escalates incidents, and interfaces with support teams and vendors to resolve system outages or reduced performance. The ideal candidate will be a proactive problem solver with strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently while following established procedures.
About the Opportunity:
- Hybrid or On-site: 100% on-site in Plano, TX
- Shift: Nights
- Schedule: Wednesday-Saturday
- Hours: 7:00pm-5:30am CT
- Setting: Data Center
Responsibilities:
- Installing and maintaining network and server hardware, including racking, stacking, cabling, and component replacements.
- Supporting data center staging, deployment, logistics, and asset management.
- Performing hardware break/fix tasks, including component replacements and troubleshooting.
- Installing and maintaining fiber and copper cabling while adhering to industry standards.
- Terminating Cat 6 cabling and conducting cable testing with minimal supervision.
- Maintaining inventory control and documentation on systems and components.
- Troubleshooting and escalating incidents to resolve outages or periods of reduced performance.
- Providing status reports on active or resolved issues.
- Configuring and performing preventative maintenance on network and data center equipment.
- Managing power distribution units (PDUs), load management, and understanding NEMA and IEC power connectors.
- Working with containment solutions and updating procedures and documentation.
- Ensuring compliance with data center safety standards.
- Lifting equipment up to 50 lbs. as needed.
- Performing additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Intermediate experience in Data Center or IT Operations.
- Technical Skills: Knowledge of LAN/WAN topologies, protocols, and standards.
- Hardware & Software: Familiarity with tools utilized in data center functions.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Problem-Solving: Demonstrated analytical and troubleshooting abilities.
- Work Environment: Ability to work in a 24/7 environment, participate in on-call rotation, and provide after-hours support as needed.
- Independence & Teamwork: Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Adaptability: Ability to handle urgent problems, deadlines, and changing priorities.
- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with network cabling, electrical and optical transceivers, server hardware, electrical standards, and data center design principles.
- Attention to Detail: Highly organized and meticulous about structured cabling and documentation.
Desired Skills:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or equivalent experience.
- Networking Experience: Training in WAN/LAN communications, including installation and basic configuration of Cisco routers and switches.
- Presentation Skills: Ability to present technical solutions and recommendations.
- Technical Expertise: Knowledge of diagnosing IT system issues, software/hardware interdependencies, and desktop/LAN/host systems.
- Advanced Troubleshooting: Strong research and problem-solving abilities.
