The CNC Machinist is a dynamic and proactive contributor dedicated to overseeing the operation of multiple
CNC machines that manufacture tools and dies for extrusion machines. This role requires a self-starter who
is eager to enhance our manufacturing process through innovation and technological advancements. The
work environment for this role is a manufacturing or machine shop setting. The machinist will spend most of
their time working on or around CNC machines, and may be exposed to noise, dust, and other industrial
hazards. Safety protocols and personal protective equipment (PPE) are essential to ensure a safe working
environment. The role of a Machinist is vital in the manufacturing process, contributing to the production of high-quality
precision parts. This position requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and strong problem-solving
skills.
Role and Responsibilities / Essential Functions
- Technical Setup: Read and interpret technical drawings to accurately set up CNC machines according to blueprints.
- Operation: Operate CNC milling, lathe, or other machinery according to blueprint specifications, monitor machine performance, and make necessary adjustments to ensure optimal functioning.
- Optimization: Adjust machine cutting paths, speeds & feeds or settings to maximize production efficiency while upholding quality standards.
- Troubleshooting: Proactively troubleshoot and resolve machine issues as they occur.
- Maintenance: Perform basic maintenance tasks, including cleaning, gasketing, and monitoring tool bit wear.
- Process Improvement: Observe CNC processes and conduct time studies to identify and recommend efficiency enhancements.
- Training: Train new employees on proper CNC machine and program operations.
- Safety: Maintain a safe working environment, adhering to safety protocols and guidelines.
- Quality Control: Assist in developing inspection protocols to ensure the production of high- quality components. Conduct quality assurance tests to ensure products adhere to design specifications. Must be able to use Quality control instruments ie: Micrometer, Calipers, Dial
- Indicator and any measuring instruments needed to perform this job.
- Other Duties: Execute additional responsibilities as needed, demonstrating flexibility and dedication to the company's mission.
Requirements
Required Skills / Abilities / Competencies:
- Manufacturing Experience: Previous experience in a manufacturing setting is essential.
- CNC Expertise: Proven experience as a CNC technician is required. CAM programming is a Plus.
- Organizational Skills: Must possess excellent organizational skills and a strong attention to detail.
- Technical Proficiency: Skilled in interpreting technical drawings and blueprints, with some experience in computer modeling software.
- Coding Knowledge: Basic understanding of G and M codes is necessary.
- Problem-Solving: Adept at troubleshooting and resolving mechanical or logistical issues.
- Independence: Ability to work independently and follow directions closely is crucial.
- Professional Attitude: Should always maintain a positive and professional demeanor.
Education and Experience
- A High School Diploma is mandatory.
- Associate degree in CNC machining, industrial technology, or a related 5 years of hands on field experience
- 2-3 years of technical or operational experience with advanced training in CAD/CAM software preferred.
- Understanding of machining processes, materials, tooling, and fixture design.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot and resolve machine and programming issues.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with engineers, machinists, and other team members
- Must be authorized to work in the US.
Mental/Physical Requirements
- Concentration: Ability to focus on detailed tasks for extended periods.
- Lifting Ability: Capable of lifting up to 15 lbs. when necessary.
- Facility Navigation: Must be able to move around the facility and access all machinery freely.
