ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Back of House Shift Manager is responsible for ensuring that operations run smoothly in the absence of a manager. This team member will fulfill any Back of House duties, outlined below, that are necessary while a Culinary Manager is not on shift.
PRIMARY DUTIES INCLUDE
• Opening/Closing manager tasks
• Maintain a pleasant work environment.
• Support the primary duties of their management team.
• Support managers by supervising tasks and delegating duties.
• Monitor workers' performance with reports back to the management team.
• Communicate with all team members effectively and professionally.
• Train new and current team members on tasks.
• Lead others by example by providing excellent service.
• Support all staff (FOH and BOH)
• Continue training and development on new tasks and items.
Be flexible and aid with any workstation that may need assistance.
• Set up and stock stations with all necessary supplies
• Prepare food for service (e.g., chopping vegetables, butchering meat, or preparing sauces)
• Cook items on menu in cooperation with the rest of the kitchen staff
• Answer, report and follow executive or sous chef instructions
• Clean up station and take care of leftover food with proper labels
• Stock inventory properly following guidelines
• Ensure that food comes out simultaneously, in high quality and in a timely fashion
• Comply with nutrition and sanitation regulations and safety standards
• Maintain a positive and professional approach with co- workers and customers
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL QUALITIES TO BE A SUCCESSFUL SHIFT MANAGER
- A strong guest service focus along with effective communication and time-management skills are necessary to be successful in this role.
- Holds leadership qualities and is involved in being a team player.
- Proven cooking experience, including time as a line chef, restaurant cook or prep cook
- Excellent understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures
- Accuracy and speed in executing assigned tasks
- Familiar in the industry’s best practices
- Serve Safe Certificate within 2 weeks of employment
