Underwriting Assistant

OBJECTIVE:

This position requires an organized, articulate, and flexible individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment. This person will elevate our underwriting team by providing necessary support and data to assist with risk assessment and the pricing process. This will be mainly driven by your technical ability to review, analyze and prepare files for multi-line accounts, process new and renewal related transactions, perform support functions to assist with achieving established profit and growth goals, communicate with brokers on file needs and execute other activities related to the preparation of underwriting files.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

• Transactions may include, but are not limited to, finalizing the binding of accounts, rating review, preparation of underwriting files and proposal generation, including revisions and generating loss runs.
• Partner with Underwriters in the day-to-day underwriting functions
• Perform required support functions for Underwriting to assist with achieving established profit and growth goals.
• Assist in more complex underwriting (i.e. completing underwriting analysis including some level of assessment, learning how to underwrite small business both new and renewal, increased communication with brokers, etc.).
• Work with Underwriters to prepare for carrier audits.
• Work with Brokers to secure needed information.
• Act as a back-up for other Underwriting Assistants/Associates when needed.
• Other special projects as needed.

REQUIREMENTS:

• College degree or acceptable combination of education and experience.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in insurance. 
• Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Effective communication skills to generate a positive interaction and/or result.
• Can apply reason and logic to solve problems and make decisions
• Driven to seek out help and find answers when guidance is needed
• Ability to prioritize and multi-task (will have multiple daily tasks and projects)
• Hold a positive and respectful attitude even in challenging situations
• Ability to stay organized, prioritize and manage time effectively
• Personal initiative to work independently
• Proficient in MS Office, notably Excel and Word.

Compensation:

The base salary range for this position is $65,000 to $85,000. The offer will depend on the geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other factors. This role may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program. Salary : $65,000 - $85,000
