Position Summary: The Material Handler transports raw materials between machines and staging areas and may assist with loading and unloading material in machines.
Material Handler Duties and Responsibilities:
- Routes raw materials to departments for fabrication of parts.
- Assists with loading and unloading material into machines.
- Removes scrap and drop material from machines.
- Reviews and follows all MOP’s and SWI’s.
- May operate lift truck, hand truck or overhead crane to move, convey, or hoist raw materials to departments for fabrication.
- Keeps the work area clean and swept.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Material Handler Skills and Specifications:
- Knowledge and ability to use electronic database (EPICOR/MES).
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to safely operate and obtain certification to operate a fork truck.
- Ability to safely operate an overhead crane.
- Computer data entry skills.
- Solid problem-solving skills.
- Ability to contribute and work in a team environment.
- Ability to demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness to ensure first quality of work.
- Ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with people in the course of work.
- Willingness to work additional hours in order to meet tight deadlines.
Material Handler Education and Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
Material Handler Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of Material Handler, the employee is continually required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop, kneel, and crouch. The employee is occasionally required to crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 45 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Material Handler Work Environment:
While performing the duties of Material Handler, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
