Position Summary: The Quality Control Floater is a QC Inspector who works a flexible shift. The primary shift for this position is expected to be the third shift; however, it does include “floating” between shifts to provide QC coverage as needed. Like the QC Inspectors, the QC Floater is responsible for ensuring that products are at their highest quality level and meet or exceed the quality standards set forth by the customer and the company.

Quality Control Floater Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Interact with all shifts as necessary to provide coverage where needed.
  • Provide effective communication for start of shift to hand-off at end of shifts.
  • Measure, examine, and test products, processes, and materials against specified requirements to determine conformity to quality standards.
  • Provide guidance when required to approve or reject questioned items.
  • Reject items that do not conform to the applicable standards or requirements.
  • Correspond with appropriate personnel/departments to account for approval or rejection of tank parts or components as needed.
  • Requires work within the ERP system to provide DMR reports (discrepant material reports).
  • Maintain records of inspection results and prepares quality forms such as Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) as required for use-as-is records.
  • Maintain corresponding NCR information in the NCR log.
  • Read and use drawings to verify layout and dimensional conformance of various tank components.
  • Performs inspection of powder coating applications for compliance to standards.
  • Compile inspection records for data book completion when specified by job.
  • Keep up to date with export jobs performing required inspection and providing records to prevent non-conformance issues from shipping to the field.
  • Verify export jobs are ready for release and maintain inspection records in the job folders.
  • Complete random (QF-004) shop audits and maintain records of random audits.
  • Complete weekly 6s audits of work areas in a timely manner.
  • Maintain work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition.
  • Follow prescribed safety procedures.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Quality Control Floater Skills and Specifications:

  • Ability to work alternate shifts as needed.
  • Demonstrate general proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Google suite, etc.
  • Ability to contribute to a team environment.
  • Read and comprehend drawings, simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Establish and maintain healthy working relationships with people in course of work.
  • Safely operate and obtain certification to operate a fork truck.
  • Safely operate and obtain certification to operate an overhead crane.
  • Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness to ensure first quality of work.
  • Willingness to work additional hours in order to meet tight deadlines when necessary.
  • Travel approximately 5% of the time for work, traveling between plants or other travel as necessary.

Quality Control Floater Education and Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED)

Quality Control Floater Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of Quality Control Floater, the employee is continually required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop, kneel, and crouch. The employee is occasionally required to crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Quality Control Floater Work Environment:

While performing the duties of Quality Control Floater, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
