Grounds/Maintenance Position

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Mow, trim, and maintain turf areas, play fields, athletic fields, and courtyards.
• Perform seasonal aeration, fertilization, and overseeding of turf areas.
• Clean grounds and remove litter.
• Plant and maintain grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs.
• Water and adjust irrigation systems, repair irrigation pipes, valves, sprinklers, and related components.
• Maintain and repair tools and equipment such as lawnmowers, weed cutters, and edging tools.
• Perform minor repairs on landscaping equipment and coordinate maintenance with transportation and maintenance teams.

• Conduct inspections of school buildings, grounds, and equipment to identify maintenance needs.
• Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems.
• Repair and maintain building structures, including walls, roofs, floors, and ceilings.
• Install, repair, and maintain plumbing fixtures, water lines, and drainage systems.
• Repair and replace doors, locks, windows, and other structural components.
• Operate and maintain maintenance equipment such as power tools, lawnmowers, and snow blowers.
• Ensure compliance with safety and health regulations.
• Assist with minor renovations, additions, and construction projects.
• Respond to and execute work orders for maintenance requests.
• Assist with general cleaning duties, furniture arrangements, and supply restocking.
• Lock and unlock doors as required and ensure security of facilities.
• Communicate with supervisors, principals, and staff to ensure smooth operations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of grounds maintenance techniques, equipment, and procedures.
• Knowledge of fertilizers, soil amendments, and irrigation systems.
• Knowledge of building maintenance, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
• Familiarity with safety regulations and building codes.
• Skill in operating grounds and maintenance equipment.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to assess maintenance needs.
• Ability to read and follow instructions, blueprints, and work orders.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Basic computer and mobile device skills.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work in extreme weather conditions, and stand/walk for long periods.
• Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights above ground level.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• One to three months of related experience in groundskeeping and/or maintenance.
• Must pass a fingerprint clearance.
• Any equivalent combination of education, training, or experience that meets district requirements.
