You will provide expert consulting to senior officials within the Office of Finance, focusing on improving financial oversight, risk management, and operational efficiency. This role requires a deep understanding of financial management processes, as well as the ability to advise on policy, strategy, and process improvement in alignment with the organization's financial systems goals. The SME will use critical thinking and financial acumen to analyze the agency's business and financial operations, becoming a trusted advisor to senior officials. The consultant will address risk areas and support initiatives to enhance financial stewardship, compliance, and performance management using industry-leading best practices.
Location : Hybrid role in Washington, DC (1-2 days on site / week).
Clearance : This position supports a federal contract and requires the ability to pass a background check.
What You'll Do
- Identify opportunities for improving financial systems oversight, risk mitigation, and operational efficiency within the organization's financial processes.
- Provide expert guidance on financial management systems practices, compliance, and policy development, aligning with the organization's goals and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate closely with senior officials and finance teams to assess current financial operations, identify gaps, and recommend actionable improvements.
- Develop and implement strategic action plans to drive financial initiatives that support the organization's short- and long-term financial objectives.
- Analyze financial systems data, operational risks, and internal controls to recommend improvements in reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and overall financial management.
- Design and oversee data collection efforts related to financial systems performance, and utilize advanced analytics to assess trends, risks, and opportunities for process improvement.
- Present findings and recommendations clearly and persuasively to senior executives, ensuring buy-in and alignment with organizational goals.
- Develop, review, and author key financial reports, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and other relevant documents to support the office's financial objectives.
- Act as a subject matter expert in financial management, providing senior-level consulting to ensure financial sustainability, compliance with federal regulations, and alignment with industry best practices.
- Manage multiple assignments related to financial oversight projects, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to quality standards.
