What are the responsibilities and job description for the SY 25-26: Founding 6th Grade Humanities Teacher at TAPA: Trinity Academy for the Performing Arts position at TAPA: Trinity Academy for the Performing Arts?
SY 25-26 6th Grade Humanities Instructor at TAPA: Trinity Academy for the Performing Arts | Providence, RI
TAPA: Trinity Academy for the Performing Arts, an academically rigorous public charter school for the arts, seeks a 6th Grade Humanities Instructor to teach both English Language Arts and History. This teacher will be part of the expanding Lower School, serving students in grades 5 through 8. The ideal candidate recognizes and celebrates the interconnections between the humanities and the arts through a culturally responsive pedagogical framework.
TAPAs anti-oppression creative community is enriched by the cultural, religious, racial, ethnic, and linguistic diversity of our neurodiverse families, students, and employees. Demographically, nearly all members of the TAPA student body are people of color, predominantly Latinx, with many students speaking both English and Spanish in their homes. A significant portion of TAPAs student body identifies as members of the LGBTQ community. It is an organizational priority for TAPA to hire staff members who have cultural commonalities with our students and families.
The 6th Grade Humanities Instructor will teach two core content areas (ELA and History) to a single grade level of students, following a hybrid model that prioritizes deep relationships and instructional continuity. Students will also rotate to other content specialists, including STEM and Arts instructors. The Humanities Instructor will also lead an Advisory/Homeroom, working closely with a small group of students on social-emotional learning, executive functioning, and advocacy. Advisory/Homeroom at TAPA is a key structure for supporting student belonging, well-being, and growth.
As part of TAPA's growing lower school, this position offers a unique opportunity to help shape curriculum and systems in collaboration with administration other founding 5th/6th grade faculty. TAPAs expansion into grades 5 and 6 is grounded in our mission to create earlier, more consistent access to a high-quality, arts-based education for students in Providence. The 6th Grade Humanities Instructor will play a critical role in laying that foundation.
At its core, TAPA is a student-centered, caring community that fosters leadership, intellect, self-confidence, and responsibility. Inclusion, equity, social justice, and diversity frameworks are core components of every course. Racial and ethnic minorities and individuals with disabilities, as well as candidates from diverse backgrounds and with diverse experiences, particularly related to social justice education and/or initiatives, are strongly encouraged to apply.
