Material Handler and Shipping/Receiving Clerk

Description:

Position Summary:

Responsible for ensuring the efficient and accurate handling of materials within the warehouse and shipping/receiving areas. This role involves verifying the accuracy of incoming and outgoing shipments, maintaining detailed records, and ensuring compliance with quality standards. The individual will operate various equipment such as forklifts and hand trucks to load and unload materials and will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the warehouse. Additionally, the role includes performing periodic inventory counts and maintaining accurate inventory levels.

This is a first shift position with a schedule of 8am-4:30pm.

Essential Functions:

Material Handling (70%)

  • Calculate all material for each processed order including setup and spoilage factors.
  • Block, stack, feed, cut, retrieve, and re-stack materials.
  • Inspect cut material for quality and accuracy.
  • Kit jobs needed for press.
  • Slit material to proper specifications.
  • Operate mechanical and manual material handling equipment.
  • Operate slitting/cutting machines as needed.
  • Deliver material to proper press holding area on time.
  • Use ERP system to accurately enter data into data collection for all processes.

Shipping, Receiving, Warehouse, Packing, Finished Goods (30%)

Shipping

  • Understand packing and shipping procedures/requirements for all freight & small parcel companies used.
  • Solve problems associated with carrier, routing, and shipping schedules.
  • Track shipment when necessary.
  • Ship products per customer’s specification.
  • Communicate with appropriate parties should there be any issues with meeting shipping requirements.
  • Accurately process shipments through ERP system.
  • Contact common carriers for transport and fill out shipping manifests and other paperwork.
  • Maintain shipment records and other paperwork.
  • Prepare and package products securely. Label, weigh, and inspect packages.
  • Process shipping orders and generate labels using shipping software or carrier platforms.
  • Prepare Bill of Ladings and other necessary shipping documents.
  • Coordinate with carriers (UPS, FedEx, USPS, etc.) to schedule pickups and deliveries.
  • Operate forklift.

Receiving

  • Verify accuracy of shipments.
  • Maintain records of material in/out within the computer system.
  • Completion and management of paperwork associated with non-conforming raw materials.
  • Appropriate communication with other areas when issues arise with inaccurate materials or purchase orders.
  • Maintain quality requirements for all incoming and issued materials per ISO and quality system requirements.
  • Inspect all incoming materials per appropriate procedure(s).
  • Enter data into data collection software for all processes.
  • Ensure equipment and work area are properly maintained; perform preventative maintenance on equipment.
  • Load and unload delivery trucks or bring in material from loading docks as needed.
  • Operate forklift, cart and hand truck.

Warehouse

  • Accurate inventory levels maintained through periodic cycle counting and daily management.
  • Maintain cleanliness of warehouse area.
  • Maintenance of warehouse racking in accordance with product families and vendors.
  • Prepare materials on jobs for press room production.

Packaging

  • Assure that products to ship are the correct part number, with correct quantity, and complies with customer specifications.
  • Package jobs per customer specifications.
  • Perform sample segregation and stock packaging as needed.
  • Ensure designated jobs go to Quality Control for any required audits and comply with packaging specifications.
  • Responsible for banding and shrink-wrapping skids.
  • Notify proper parties when jobs are under or over the specified customer quantity range.
  • Coordinate daily logistics of packing for proper timeline of freight/shipping companies.

Finished Goods Inventory

  • Maintain an organized finished goods area with attention to space conservation and accuracy of location.
  • Perform cycle count and/or physical inventories as needed.
Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Three to six months related experience and/or training required

o Experience coordinating with shipping carriers and preparing Bill of Ladings highly preferred

o Warehouse experience highly preferred

o Experience operating fork trucks and pallet jacks highly preferred

  • Fort lift certification highly preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge

  • Quality Control: Knowledge of ISO and quality system requirements.
  • Record-Keeping: Ability to maintain accurate records of materials in/out and manage related paperwork.
  • Inventory Management: Understanding of maintaining accurate inventory levels through periodic cycle counting and daily management.
  • Data Entry: Proficiency in entering data into ERP software systems.
  • Basic Mathematics: Competence in using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.

Skills

  • Communication: Effective communication with other departments about issues.
  • Attention to Detail: Ensuring the accuracy of shipments and inspecting materials.
  • Equipment Operation: Proficiency in operating forklifts, carts, and hand trucks.
  • Maintenance Skills: Ability to perform preventative maintenance on equipment and maintain work areas.
  • Organizational Skills: Keeping the warehouse clean and maintaining racking systems.
  • Problem-Solving: Addressing issues with inventory and storage.
  • Teamwork: Collaborating with other team members to ensure smooth operations.
  • Reading/Using Calipers and Ruler: Ability to read and use calipers and rulers (or trainable on such).
  • Hand-Eye Coordination

Abilities

  • Able to work well under pressure.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions:

The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move over 25 pounds with the use of a lift assist. Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to and over 100 pounds with the help of equipment. This job requires close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.


Total compensation:

The base pay range below reflects the potential hourly compensation for this position. Compensation will vary based on factors including experience.
