What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Service Technician position at TARGAN Inc.?
The Field Service Technician I (FST I) is responsible for providing best-in-class service and support for TARGAN’s broiler hatchery customers. This position should possess the skills necessary to maintain, repair, test, diagnose, troubleshoot, and debug electro-mechanical chick sexing, vaccination and other integrated automated systems. Primary responsibilities for this position include maintenance and emergency repairs on all TARGAN installed equipment at the customer location. The FST I must be able to use his or her outstanding mechanical skills as well as solid communication skills to work closely with customer supervisors, production employees, and technicians on complex problems and assume responsibilities for continued customer satisfaction. Work assignments will require adherence to a standardized installation, preventative maintenance, and equipment update programs for assigned customers while being able to identify and resolve unanticipated system issues in a timely manner when they occur. This position requires frequent travel to customer sites to assist with installation, servicing, and repair of TARGAN vaccination equipment and related sub-systems.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Perform routine/scheduled preventive maintenance on all assigned TARGAN systems
- Provide electrical/mechanical support and perform emergency repairs as needed
- Required participation in territory after-hours, holiday, and weekend support, as needed
- Ensure the Targeted Vaccine Delivery System (TVDS) standardized operations and processes are followed and adhered to in assigned territory
- Implement and manage the TARGAN end-user training program for all customer employees responsible for working with installed systems
- Support and conduct the execution of the TARGAN system evaluation and performance program
- Responsible for system and service-related communications within assigned customer hatcheries
- Principle for collecting and completing all relevant TARGAN reporting forms and procedures including scheduling visits, system maintenance and troubleshooting outcomes, customer site contacts, on-site parts usage and inventory, customer training and certification program, and vehicle and equipment maintenance within assigned time
- Provide input and support to TARGAN Engineering and Bio Research teams
- Other duties as assigned based on business needs
Required Experience & Skills:
- Associate degree in Electro/Mechanical Systems or related curriculum and/or a bachelor's degree in poultry science or related field from an accredited institution
- 1-5 years of related experience
- Effective communication and customer service skills are necessary to interact directly with multiple levels of customer personnel and internal TARGAN team members
- Proven mechanical aptitude and strong troubleshooting ability – The ability to look at an entire process and determine the source of the problem/issue
- Exceptional critical thinking, problem-solving, judgment, and initiative
- Strong organizational skills
- Self-motivator and self-starter
- Ability to learn, produce, and submit accurate service and expense reports promptly
- Ability to understand and follow blueprints, machine drawings, and electrical & pneumatic drawings and schematics
- Master the use of a variety of common power and hand tools
- Proficient in the use of a laptop computer, tablet, and related software
- Must be able to work safely and efficiently and follow all safety/precautionary procedures
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and a clean motor vehicle record
Working Conditions:
- The majority of work is done in a commercial poultry hatchery where exposure to a potentially hazardous environment is possible
- Heat and humidity above average are common
- Available for on-call/after-hours work beyond a standard 40-hour work week to respond to customer emergency calls (via telephone, video, and face-to-face)
- Lift more than 50 pounds
- Daily travel up to 100% of the time, but less than 50% overnight travel
- Occasional travel to TARGAN headquarters in Raleigh, North Carolina for training
Salary : $65,000 - $85,000
